On 2 September 2019, Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan appeared in a photograph with a map that depicted nearly half of the Aegean Sea and Greek Islands as also an area up to the eastern coast of Crete as belonging to Turkey.

The map was displayed during an official ceremony at the National Defense University of Turkey in Constantinople and shows an area labelled as "Turkey's Blue Homeland" stretching up to the median line of the Aegean, enclosing the Greek islands in that part of the sea without any indication of the Greek territorial waters around them. The Blue Homeland is an irredentist and expansionist concept and doctrine, created by the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Navy Commander Cihat Yaycı, and developed with Admiral Cem Gurdeniz in 2006.

The Greek side expressed its regret, with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias stating that Turkey's tactics are "communication campaigns that cannot change international legitimacy, merely establishing Turkey's image as a perpetrator".

The Modern Diplomacy carries an article on September 2, 2020, by the headline ‘Turkey’s Neo-Ottomanism is knocking at the Door’ and highlights the politics involved in this policy-shift of Turkey.
‘It refers to the aims of Turkey’s of reclaiming the territories that were held by the ottomans before its collapse.
Turkey is all eyes on the revival of the greater Turkey.
It is obvious that in the contemporary world and the international law no state can acquire and annex lands that are declared states but Turkey aims to have economic influence on the territories that were part of the greater Turkey.

In summary: The “blue homeland” is an irredentist concept that claims vast sections of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas, including Greek and Cypriot maritime borders and hydrocarbon deposits, for Turkey.

To all the Greeks here.

Defending our interests mean being neo Ottoman.

That means we are proud to be Neo Ottomans.

You guys should also add in Seljuks and Mongols since Greeks have daily nightmares about them 🤣🤣🤣

An intresting paper regarding the Turkish irredentist concept......

example1:Nevertheless, the process of modernizing the Turkish Navy still has to overcome many challenges in meeting Mavi Vatan ambitions. Lack of technology is still forcing Turkey to use foreign components to produce domestic armaments, creating a dependency effect.

example2: The idea of a 460,000 m² EEZ is thus regularly taken up by Devlet Bahçeli in his actions. The MHP’s unique position in parliament (its 50 MPs are needed by the AKP to retain a governmental majority) allows it to influence decisions and defend this geopolitical vision.

Remark: MHP is is a Turkish far-right, ultranationalist and Eurosceptic political party. The group is often described as neo-fascist, and has been linked to some violent paramilitaries and organized crime groups. The party is represented by 48 MPs in the Turkish Parliament which support the AKP government.

You can think what you want on the issue, better that you have been taught to say it by Erdogan's media.
For the rest of the world it is a Turkish irredentist and expansionist concept and doctrine.

Fact1:
"Turkey is the biggest jailer of journalists in the world"

Fact 2:
'In the almost 20 years that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been in power, he has succeeded in bringing newspapers and television stations largely under his government's control."

Now tell me how a modest Turk will learn how irredentist and expansionist concept is the Mavi Vatan?

For me it's quite the opposite. Most of the times when it comes to corrupt media they always bring up GreekCityTimes but when asked to refer to an article where they outright lied they awlays dodge the question. I think it has more to do with some people using the GreekCityTimes arguments and then other people just copying the argument without anyone actually questioning their legitimacy since it's been spammed so many times that people take it for fact. Also what's your guys main Defence news outlet for Turkish news ? In Greece the main ones are PtisiDiastima and defencereview.gr. After that the next most reliable one is Doureios but it has no comment section from what I know and it mainly covers iffy opinions.

The Blue Homeland doctrine's goal, which was announced by the Turkish Admiral, under the auspices of the government, is to achieve Turkey's control and consolidation in the three seas surrounding it, to impart her regional and international influence and allow it energy sources, which will support its economic and demographic growth without dependence in other countries.
Beyond the Blue homeland doctrine's declared goals, Turkey's hidden goal is the cancelation of the effects of the treaty of Lausanne, which was forced on the Turks in 1923
