Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is stepping down as chief of the social media company, effective immediately. Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief technology officer, will take over the helm, the company said Monday.

Shares of Twitter closed down 2.74% on the day.

  • Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is stepping down as chief of the social media company.
  • Dorsey, 45, was serving as both the CEO of Twitter and Square, his digital payments company.
  • Parag Agrawal, the company’s chief technology officer, is taking over as CEO effective immediately.

Dorsey, 45, was serving as both the CEO of Twitter and Square, his digital payments company. Dorsey will remain a member of the board until his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders, the company said. Salesforce President and COO Bret Taylor will become the chairman of the board, succeeding Patrick Pichette, a former Google executive, who will remain on the board as chair of the audit committee.

“I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders,” Dorsey said in a statement, though he didn’t provide any additional detail on why he decided to resign.

Agrawal, 37, will have to meet Twitter’s aggressive internal goals. The company said earlier this year it aims to have 315 million monetizable daily active users by the end of 2023 and to at least double its annual revenue in that year.

Agrawal, who’s served as CTO since 2017, has been with Twitter for more than a decade. He had been in charge of strategy involving artificial intelligence and machine learning and he led projects to make tweets in users’ timelines more relevant to them.

Agrawal was also previously tasked with finding a leader for Project Bluesky, a research project Twitter launched to establish open and decentralized standards for social media platforms. Dorsey had previously said Bluesky will help social media companies collaborate on how posts are promoted to users and will give users more control over the content they see. Bluesky could also make it easier for the social networks to enforce restrictions against hate speech and other abuse, essentially helping them share the load at a lower cost.

Agrawal held research internships at AT&T, Microsoft and Yahoo before joining Twitter.

Dorsey said in an email he published on Twitter that Agrawal has been his choice to lead the company “for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs.”

Dorsey was nearly ousted last year when Twitter stakeholder Elliott Management had sought to replace him. Elliott Management founder and billionaire investor Paul Singer had wondered whether Dorsey should run both of the public companies. Singer called for Dorsey to step down as CEO of one of them before the investment firm reached a deal with Twitter’s management.

Elliott issued a statement on Monday’s news, noting that its collaboration with Jack and Twitter over the past couple of years has been productive.

“Twitter is now executing against an ambitious multi-year plan to dramatically increase the company’s reach and value, and we look forward to the next chapter of Twitter’s story,” the company’s managing partner Jesse Cohn and senior portfolio manager Marc Steinberg said. “Having gotten to know both incoming Chairman Bret Taylor and incoming CEO Parag Agrawal, we are confident that they are the right leaders for Twitter at this pivotal moment for the company.”

Dorsey, who co-founded the social media giant in 2006, served as CEO until 2008 before being pushed out of the role. He returned to lead Twitter in 2015 after former CEO Dick Costolo stepped down.

Twitter shares have jumped 85% since Dorsey took over as CEO on Oct 5. 2015. Square stock has surged 1,566% since its initial public offering on Nov. 19, 2015.

To give some context -

Before the 1983 World Cup, India had not won a single match in the previous World Cups in 1975 and 1979.

India started as 66-1 outsiders

The English captain when asked about the strategy for the semi final against India said that they were more concerned about the strategy for the final.

Despite offering to pay, the English cricket board refused to give extra tickets to the Indian Board when India reached the final. That's when Dalmiya and ilk decided that they will host the next World Cup in India whatever it takes and move the epicenter of the game to India.

In the ICC, the two most powerful boards - England and Australia had a veto power.

Maldives has defended its defence pact and partnership with India notwithstanding the opposition protests.

The Parliament Committee on National Security (241 Committee) of Maldives recently stated that agreements between Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and the Indian military do not contain any clauses that cause concern to the island nation.

Opposition MP and Former Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar had requested the Parliament review three agreements between MNDF and the Indian military to develop a dockyard in Uthuru Fila Falhu (UTF) base, an agreement to operate a Dornier aircraft with Indian assistance, and a hydrography agreement.

India and Maldives have upgraded their defence ties since Ibu Solih came was elected as the President in 2028. While Maldives Defence Minister visited India last week, the ships and aircraft of the Indian Navy participated in the first-ever Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) Focused Operation to enhance maritime security in the Indian Ocean region, along with Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Earlier this year India and the Maldives signed a defence Line of Credit agreement worth $50 million. The deal was signed during the visit by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Male.

The defence Line of Credit will “facilitate capability building in the maritime domain”, Jaishankar had stated. The two sides had agreed to strengthen coordination in enhancing regional maritime security, said a Joint Statement that summed up the bilateral agreements. The defence and security collaboration will also focus on combating terrorism in “all its forms and manifestations”.

The two sides had also agreed to convene the first meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, countering Violent Extremism and De-radicalisation at the the earliest.

Indicating deepening security cooperation, an agreement to develop, support and maintain a Maldives National Defence Force Coast Guard Harbour at Sifvaru was also signed during Jaishankar’s visit.

India is a key power in the Indian Ocean region, with New Delhi remaining the net security provider, besides taking the lead in extending humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to several countries including Madagascar, Mozambique and Comoros besides Maldives and Sri Lanka. In June, the Sri Lankan Navy, Airforce and the Indian Coast Guard jointly doused a fire on MV X-Press Pearl, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship.

RIP. Reminds me of the the Cougar crash a few years ago where Turkey lost Major Gen. Aydoğan Aydın. Very demoralising.

Helicopters are insanely dangerous, especially when they lack obstacle detection systems. Also, unlike planes, once a helicopter loses its engines it falls like a rock.

To honest , with Chinese aggression on LAC and with ongoing process of reforms in armed forces he is really important person for national security , but as they say every one is replaceable , hopefully we will get a competent officer as CDS .

There should be more safety features for helicopters like deployable parachutes
