If you have a fair basis to be wary of the West (or anyone else)....while retaining Ataturk's republican principles at the core.... I have no issue.

That will always make itself known to anyone reasonable watching and reading.

It is however plain to see when that is NOT the case ...and the whole thing is reductive from certain people....to hate the west as the first principle...to hate secularism as the first principle....and then deploy that back in time on Ataturk even in whatever way (there are threads illustrating this amply before).

I have observed some members here long enough to know the symptoms of the irrational disease afflicting them...and their cruder transients that flitter by on specific threads like this one....hoping to get some kick out of it.

I will make it known what I think of such people....without needing to name them.
This isnt the thread for this tbh but do allow me to share my thoughts on the issue

IMO, there is no nation that is 100% secular; some sort of religion or identity must have roots within the framework of the nation; from the USA to France to UK to Italy to Greece To Turkey to the Med East to India to China itself etc....

The notion of completely separating religion and politics is completely impossible. Some religions do prohibit certain actions that cant be formed during politics and vice versa etc...

That applies to Ataturk as well. Ataturk was one of the most patriotic guys Tuks ever had; unlike the current rulers of his party tbh! He fought in the Ottoman army (during its last days) and knew what lost cause it was and thus resigned and supported the Turks fight against the Western fools. Ataturk wasnt perfect but he did give Turkey the basis for all the things it lacked. However, after he died, all the basis for such improvement was destroyed by the so-called secular party at the time
If such things were to remain, Turkey rn would have been teaching Russia a lesson Directly for its lost soldiers and not indirectly by supporting Ukraine. You dont know how many times I wished if Ataturk has been alive for 10 to 20 more, at least Turkey would have bloody indigenous functioning planes

I wont deny that polotical leaders like the AKP's Erdo is use religion for his benefit in some cases and I wont deny that some members do hate Ataturk in general (which is quite wrong) but I would say that semi-broken nationalism is still a 100 times better than hardocore secularism. At least the country will gain something

A nation cant definitely improve if its leaders have no sort of nationalism, patriotism or intimacy with its own nation's history

Erdoğan put it very clearly right in the beginning; "We want to lose neither Russia nor Ukraine". So we hit a balance where the two can coexist peacefully.

If Russia invades Ukraine it will be under sanctions for many years. Russia will need to do business with Türkiye as their lifelines will have been cut for the most part. On the other hand we would rather have Russia out of Ukraine and Ukraine out of NATO and we have the power to do the NATO side and we have to show that we won't sit and watch when Russia has its way with nations who are partners with Türkiye. Are we afraid of Russia's military power? NO, Nukes will not work as there is no justification; conventional weapons will not be enough as they can not overpower Türkiye by a good factor. More so going forward as Türkiye is closing the technology gap.
Don't believe everything that comes out of Erdoğans mouth. This is his classic lip service. At the moment we are HEAVILY supporting Ukraine and pretend like we are "neutral". We are in a coalition against Russia with Poland and we are coordinating aid efforts together. Turkiye has a lot of assets in Poland right now. While both sides are fighting we are delivering advanced munitions, EW systems, technical, intelligence, and battlefield assistance, and expertise to one side which means we are clearly, beyond a doubt, picking a side. We are doing it in such a way that it is very hard to prove and on paper, we are staying neutral. Erdoğans lip service, not closing Turkish airspace to Russian commercial flights serves that purpose.
