Can't do. The territorial armies will not be able to sustain themselves.

The defense of Indonesia lies with the air force and navy and it's ability to challenge or outright cancel any invasion attempt on Indonesian islands.
No worry. When Indonesian navy and air force get decimated, the super strong army boys can defend against and defeat enemy's navy, air force and army with super genius tactical guerrilla warfare in palm oil jungle.

IMO, the article did not say that the army could beat any peer adversaries alone in a conventional war

the food reserves idea ideally will also benefit lanal and lanud personnel

We got tonnes of perkebunan BUMN, they already dabbled in agriculture and agribusiness industry for decades, and it was them who had Capital to do so, it was them who should be put into work. Don't know why most of western countries in which most of their agri industry being hold by their private companies able to provide food and reserve in number. The problem most likely happened in the logistic and management chain command from the policy maker

I think they already thought it out and that's why MoD is involved in food estate project, albeit limited to just casava.

Maybe they deemed casava as the easiest to plant, harvest and prepare for soldiers on the field? Casava definitely less complex than rice. There's storage issue tho.

In my opinion, the task and value for any soldier or armed Forces is how much efficient they are able to kill or defeat the enemies. Other than, the likes of HADR and SAR efforts is only part of their duties to protect.

Not like' i don't understand how much valuable such activity especially for some people pocket, but hey we are talking about profesional Forces in which the human resource needed to plant or arrangement of food and other stuff better to allocated them toward formation of needed combat units of armed Forces auxiliary like Zipur , communication services, and such.

Yes. But the writer emphasize a land based struggle.

A land based struggle will be ugly, and put much suffering to the locals. If the enemy gained control of the air and sea that meant we could not feed the local population as we are a food importer.

And if the enemy set foot in one of the island, there's no way for one Kodam outside of that particular island to help. Not even kostrad could help

Author already written-off navy and air force lol

Geez, navy and air force should be the backbone of our armed force.

Put aside about food logistics, what about logistics of spare parts, fuel, ammo etc.? Even Russia who can produce their own fuel, weapons and spare parts and have good road access still have problem to distribute their logistics, much less us who depends heavily on imported fuel, spare parts, etc. and have our sea access get cut off?

When our navy and air force get decimated, we're basically fucked up real bad.

What? Build ammo, armored vehicles etc. factory on each islands? What about the fuel? Lol
Army needs to build new depot-level facilities (bengkel pusat?) outside java that are able to carry out heavy MRO and upgrade projects, especially as they are getting more and more mechanized

Remember in 2020 when we need to send AMX-13 all the way from Sulawesi to West Java just for what appeared to be a mediocre MRO?

That's why it is more important compared to build army led food estate, modern warfare is not all about food anymore, they need medical supply, continuous supply of spare part, and other technical stuff.

Food production should be handle by civvies, they have more than enough complete Chain industry for top to bottom. Our private industry already profesional and have Capital along with incentive to do research and development of processed foods and beverage including soldier MRE, as even some civilian agencies actually needed them too, what must be taking notes is distribution chain and policy to do thing more efficient.

The food security doctrine of Kemhan is different to Kementan (or other civilian institution). The main thing to be secured is the ‘production process’, in which the production area need to be protected as well as the production factors (ie human resource and equipment) from being captured by enemy forces.

The human resources to operate this secured farming area is not active TNI personnel. Instead, Kemhan recruited civilian with ‘additional’ military basic training (such as Komcad). They will also recruited pensioners (ex TNI) as supervisors and team leaders.

Cassava was chosen because it suits the strategic overview of abovementioned doctrine. The highest cost to yield (in term of calorie) ratio. It also only need minimal care, minimal water, minimal fertilizer and can be stored ‘under the soil’ for almost unlimited time.

This program won’t be financially viable for BUMN. Unless the govt injects huge CAPEX to build cassava downstream industries (ie ethanol, mocaf, tapioca, ethilene, etc).
