50k troops so thats like 1/3rd of what Russia sent for Ukraine, how much territory they want to cease back just for my curiosity? entire Syria, half of Syria 10-30% Syria?
Russia sent around 250000, that's like 5 times the number Turkey is using.
Pro tip: don't annouce intentions for an operation without swiftly following through.

Obviously, the announcement was made for political reasons but whenever this operation does take place it will be quite bloody.

1. YPG/PKK 2. Syrian Regime 3. Pro-Iranian militias 4. Russians --> All have sent reinforcements to Tal Rifaat.

Although preparations are being made I have a feeling that Lavrov's meeting will result in the Syrian Regime replacing YPG control over Tal Rifaat - and that any operation will be quite underwhelming.

There are rumours circulating that the Russians are trying to pursuade Turkey to capture Kobane, but its not currently on the agenda given US pressure.
I almost wonder if it's worth it at this point to tell Russia to go fuck itself and clear the area anyway. And if any Russian airplanes try bombing, blow them out of the sky immediately as a message. So Russia either does thing the Turkish way or loses Syria entirely.

What's Russia gonna do? Nuke Turkey?

When your opposition is weak, hit them hardest where it hurts, consolidate your gains and negotiate hardball. And the best part is that it's Russia and the entire world's attitude right now is basically "fuck Russia" so Turkey wouldn't be getting nearly the amount of negative press.

People keep talking about Russian tourism but I would like to point out that losing Russian tourism wouldn't be nearly as much of a blow if a) Erdogan stopped being retarded about interest rates and b) if AKP didn't repeatedly stick their foot in their mouths in regards to the rest of Europe.

US and Russian forces are mobilizing in Manbij and Tel Rifat.

Erdogan again talking 10 days long about a operation blablabla before firing one shot.

Honestly, if that is the case then this operation is useless
What is the use of fighting the YPG when it will end up in Assad's hands in the end? YPG is like a parasite; they dont care what type of host they live in as long as they are able to survive
If Turkey fights in Tel Rifat, it should ensure that both the Free Syrian army ajd the Turkish flag are waving high within the city or it will be a waste of money and resources
@TheInsider thoughts?
Tal Rifat is a thorn in our shoe. If we can capture Tal Rifat we can sucure Afrin. If we capture Manbij on top of Tal Rifat we can secure all areas west of the Euphrates. If we secure Ain Al Arab and Ain Issa and Tall Tamr we can mostly secure all areas west of the Resulayn.

AK party by playing these silly games basically invites the same problems over and over again. Russia revealed herself to be a clown army, its time to go in and smash them and if Assad wants to get involved then we remove him too.

Russians should be made aware that Turkey will not play these games anymore and if they turn it into a war, that we will not only move on them in syria but elsewhere too.
What kind of public support do you want to secure before you move in?
Will opposition support it or not?
Or will they take it as an opportunity to raise hell within Türkiye?

Any movement by the government will be against both the hostiles in Syria and hostiles within Türkiye.

That is a risk any goverment will hesitate to take, not just in Turkey but anywhere. I doubt that current political spectrum represents the view of a nationalist majority on this issue, so Erdogan more than likely has the support of many a non-voter. Because that silent majority do not act with the rhetoric.
EDIT: I say let history be the judge of what is to come!

What is this guys problem?

The YPG and PKK are occupying those northern areas for years now. I saw never a statement from Assad or Damascus that those groups are violating Syrias territorial integrity, not even when they clearly want a part of Syria for a new established PKK-state.

BUT WHEN Turkey plans a operation to secure Syrian territorial integrity and to clean the borders from armoured groups, the regime in Damascus is crying from every roof that we are in violation.

Assad and his late father, are and were always anti-Turkish.

I have a fealing that the US and Russia gonna team up again in Syria.

We should have made a unanounced Blitzkrieg, instead we are talking one week about it, giving everyone time to refresh, reinforce, reassemble and regroup.

And when we definitely attack, Erdogan will call Putin every day to beg for a talk or ceasefire like next time in Idlib, he just hit the SAA for 7 days and every day he called Putin and Putin just answered at the 7th day and the operation halted.

And after that we got our governments humiliation in Mosqow before the statue of Chatherine the Great.

At this point, they are not in a position to cooperate, when the whole russian army is getting rekt by us weapons. There was no cooperation before that either, that is something the russians assumed and in the process are now getting rekt lel

The biggest failure of them was to underestimate Türkiye and the bombing of Turkish positions and the idea that this wont come back at them at a later stage. You also dont blitzkrieg into fortified positions without taking high casualities, so far the operations were relatively successfull with the only exemption that they were limited by dumb deals that werent kept lol

Syrian, Iranian and Russian armour have been gathering in Northern Syria. US are definitely against the operation by the Turkish side. Although they won’t interfere directly, indirectly we may feel it in the form of sanctions being tightened again. Russians seem to be bluffing. We will see the real face of them when Lavrov visits. But they could use the Assad forces as proxies against us. Iranian militia is a dark horse. But they are on the move as well.
It may be turning in to a quagmire of a move, this new Northern Syrian operation RTE is planning to do.

A quagmire would suite AKP. Time it too soon and it’ll be costly. Time it too late and you won’t reap the benefit of TSK flexing it’s muscles. For the elections in 2023.

Syria is an independent and sovereign country - No outsider should be allowed to wage war and kill Syrian people in Syria.
So: Russia - out, USA - out, Iran - out, and Turkey - out. (excluding those troops invited by Damascus)

On the other hand - no joke - why isn't Turkey "liberating" e.g. 10%-15% of Syria and handing over that territory to an independent Kurdish state? any better way to make friends with a mortal enemy? - Kurdish friends for decades to come.!

Silly idea? - if so please don't hesitate to tell me why.

yeah lets give land to YPG who is renamed PKK who has been waging war against the Turks and Turkish state since.
Don't talk about stuff you don't have any Idea Kurdish friends are just %10 percent of syria.

Also I doubt Syrian goverment is legitimate after what they did to themselves.
If ASSAD played his cards right there would be no civil war in Syria also half of the so Called Syrian Arab army is IRGC militias from Iran not even their army is syrian.

Plus Turkey has every right to Intervene against YPG they aren't the goverment there technically It is anarcyh plus there has been lots of weapon smugglings happened through border.

If ISIS or YPG didn't sheller Turkish border cities we wouldn't have Intervened but play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Isn't the primary goal of all Kurdish organizations to have an own country? they are not just asking for only Turkish territory.
If Turkey is in a position to do so e.g. via Syrian lands (after all you mentioned controlled by an illegitimate government) - then why not? and thus gain friends for the future!

Because they are not going to stop there and start going for Turkish territory?
