Cyprus is Ottoman land and the Cypriots should be proud and thankfull that Prof. Dr. Erbakan and Ecevit saved their asses against the Greek junta. It would ne treason to be disloyal to the Turkish Republic, because if Turkey would bring back their troops home, Greece would invade and annex Cyprus again.

Letter from Anastasiadis to Tatar: Direct flight to Ercan versus Maraş, direct trade to Famagusta Port

Here is the 'Confidence Building Measures' proposal brought up by Anastasiadis in that letter.

Maras-Timbu (Ercan) Airport:

  • The closed Varosha area and access to it will be transferred to the UN administration in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions 550 and 789 so that legal residents can return as soon as possible under security conditions.
  • In parallel with this process, Ercan Airport will be given to the management of the UN and will operate in full compliance with the relevant international law rules, including the 1944 Chicago Convention, and the 1960 Establishment Convention.
  • It will remain a single and indivisible flight information zone (FIR) in Cyprus.
Famagusta Port-Ankara Protocol:

  • Practical arrangements for trade through the Famagusta Port will be agreed in line with the 10th protocol of Cyprus' 2003 EU accession text. These exchanges will be managed by the European Commission.
  • Turkey will lift its restrictions on Cyprus and implement the Additional Protocol of the Accession Treaty fully and without exception for Cyprus, thereby allowing, among other things, the access and opening of Turkish (Turkish) ports for Cypriot-flagged ships.
  • Cypriot citizens will not be deprived of a single drop of hydrocarbons and their possible income. Even before the Cyprus problem is resolved, the relevant income for the Turkish Cypriot community will be deposited into a special account in proportion to the population/citizens of the future constituent states.
  • An Exclusive Economic Zone/Continental Shelf delimitation agreement will be signed between Cyprus and Turkey.

Invitation to renegotiation

In his letter dated 6 May, Anastasiades invited Ersin Tatar to re-negotiations within the framework approved by the international community.

Anastasiadis said, "We must negotiate the possible and realistic, not the undesirable and impossible to achieve," and laid out the negotiation framework as the January 11, 2014 Eroğlu-Anastasiades agreement.

Addressing Tatar with the phrase "Dear Ersin", Anastasiades also referred to the UN Security Council resolution 716 dated 1991.

Well it’ll definitely break the cogs of joining EU and many other issues. Plus it’ll give EU an excuse to sanction Turkey. Considering how AKP has been granting citizenship to Syrians en masse. It’s like when Ottomn lost their wits nd started doing dumb things.

I don’t think it’s going to happen though. The economy is too messed up and we have too many problems to sort out.

But they’re doing everything they can to create unrest to provoke something to impose martial law of a kind.

Cyprus problem an ‘open wound’, president tells EU-Nato gathering, speaks briefly with Erdogan

President Nicos Anastasiades spoke briefly with his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan during the Euro-Atlantic meeting in Madrid and reiterated his readiness to resume negotiations towards a lasting solution to the Cyprus problem.

Details of Anastasiades’ participation in the Euro-Atlantic meeting that brought together 36 leaders from the EU and Nato on Wednesday evening were given by government spokesman Marios Pelekanos and carried by the Cyprus News Agency, where it was emphasised that the president briefed his counterparts on the need to resolve the Cyprus problem.

Anastasiades stated that the Cyprus problem remains an “open wound” which threatens the peace, stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe.

He noted, however, that such cooperation between the two alliances must be based on the autonomy of the two groups.

Anastasiades presented four points which must be prioritised: bolstering the EU’s defensive autonomy, zero tolerance for violations of international law and revisionist policies, resolving existing issues which complicate EU-Nato relations, and for all nations (present) to impose sanctions on Russia to ensure their effectiveness.

The president also reiterated the dangers stemming from food and energy insecurity and migration flows, among other hybrid threats.

According to the spokesman’s written statement to the media, the president again said that he is willing to resume negotiations on the Cyprus problem from the point at which they were cut-off, meaning the failed 2017 talks in Crans-Montana.

The funniest thing is that even the staunchest anti-Turk ideologue on the planet will quietly admit that yeah, Turkey was kind of right. Ran into one of those the other day at a work-related event and even despite talking about how much he hates Turkish government and politics, he STILL quietly admitted that yeah, Turkish Cypriots suffered immensely and he could see why Turkey launched the intervention.

Any time you run into one of those, keep pushing despite their objections. They will break eventually.

I do not understand how the Turks didn't take control of this island long time ago! it is very strategic for the Turkish nation, how they left it to the Greeks. It is closer to Turkey than to Greece!

Plan was to take half of the Island and create a buffer zone for Turkish Cypriots.

Because Turkish Cypriots were just 20% of the population and was controlling 30% of the government and owning less than that private land. And that operation made with permission of the NATO / US after years of diplomacy, even though they sanctioned Turkey because she exceeded the plan and move further in some regions to connect Turkish Villages like Akincilar, Plan was less than 30%, but we took 36% so every peace deal it comes in front of us.. give 6 or 7% back to Greeks. When Turkish Army was moving further than approved plan, British and UN troops were going there to block in 1974. History is much different when you talk real people who witnessed it.

It is in the news everywhere, whether it is a mistake or false flag, Turkiye should clarify the incident or apologize etc and don't stay silent. Because these things affect image a lot. If PKK did this, Turkiye should bring UN or International observers to clarify and turn the tide. But with all that technology, and knowing the place with many tourists (crowded) it is really suspicious.

It is suspicious why should TSK target bunch of tourists, It smells like false flag.
