According to Janes armor and artillery 2006, a program Turkey set out in the 1990s to procure a new tank to replace its aging fleet of M48/60s and Leopard 1s the Leopard 2A6EX was offered as an alternative, why did this not end up going through? Was it due to the same deal being offered to Greece with it being the Leopard 2A6HEL?

Altay was the winner of that tender. Deliveries were set to begin at 2018, but Germany imposed an arms embargo upon the Turks. as a result, MTU sat on the engines. No worries tho, indigenous power pack is in the works…

The whole world is doomed to MTU in tank power packs, it does not get enough efficiency in those who do it, it is enviable that you are so comfortable.

I didn't know what to say, especially since you thought BMC could do it...

I could have hoped if Tai, Tei, Aselsan, Roketsan or TÜBİTAK Sage were involved, but BMC wouldn't work.

its MTU's and German government's fault. the end result would be fucked anyway, no matter whoever's responsible for it.

its not all doom and gloom tho, If we can manage to adapt the e-Fırtına's hybrid powerpack to Altay, I think it would be EPIC.

Because Germany proved itself to be an unreliable partner.

The question here should be how the responsible people thought it was a good idea to design Altay around a German powerpack when there were alternatives available?
