Indo Defence 2022: Indonesia's maritime security agency fields Spanish-built UAVs on its largest ships​

The Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (BAKAMLA) has fielded rotor-winged unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on two of its largest ships.

Speaking to Janes at the Indo Defence 2022 exhibition in Jakarta, a representative from the service disclosed that the UAVs have been deployed on the 110 m patrol vessel KN Tanjung Datu, and the 80 m Pulau Nipah-class patrol boat KN Pulau Marore (322).

The UAVs are based on the Alpha 900 UAV from Spanish firm Alpha Unmanned Systems, and the two units were delivered to BAKAMLA in the latter part of 2021.

“The UAVs have increased our line of sight from these ships and enhanced our ability to detect anomalies at sea including illegal fishing activities and maritime territorial incursions”, said the representative, who is also a UAV operator onboard Pulau Marore.

The Alpha 900 has a maximum take-off weight of 25 kg and a maximum cruise speed of 100 km/h. At the cruising speed of 60 km/h on its full payload, the UAV has an endurance of up to 2.2 hours.

In BAKAMLA service, the Alpha 900 has been equipped with the Epsilon 140LC dual-sensor surveillance system from Octopus ISR Systems. The surveillance system's camera sensor has a 30x optical zoom while its infrared sensor has a 4x digital zoom.

The UAV has been incorporated with an automatic take-off and landing system that can operate at up to Sea State 4 for take-offs, and up to Sea State 5 for landings.

Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and President of Defence Industry Agency of the Republic of Turkiye, Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir, witnessed and accompanied signing of a Framework Agreement in Aerospace Engineering programs between PTDI and Turkish Aerospace.

The Framework Agreement was signed by President Director of PTDI, Gita Amperiawan, President & CEO of Turkish Aerospace, Temel Kotil, Executive Vice President, Aircraft of Turkish Aerospace Prof. Dr. Atilla Dogan, and Director of Production of PTDI, Batara Silaban in the opening day of Indo Defense Expo & Forum on Nov 2nd in Jakarta, Indonesia. The agreement aims to establish an engineering collaboration project between PTDI and Turkish Aerospace to be executed through procurement of Engineering Man Power Services and Engineering Work Packages.

"This Global Partnership will also utilize the man power, the capabilities, at the same time we will also merge the aircraft market," said Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI.

WITNESSED BY THE INDONESIAN MINISTER OF DEFENSE, PT PINDAD AND NEXTER SIGN COOPERATION


Jakarta - CEO of PT Pindad, Abraham Mose and CEO of Nexter, Domique Guillet signed a Head of Agreement (HOA) in the defense sector, especially regarding the latest generation 120 mm tank ammunition in the Indo Defense 2022 Expo & Forum on Wednesday, 02 November 2022 at JIExpo Kemayon, Jakarta.

The signing of the HOA between PT Pindad and Nexter was witnessed by the Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto. The signing ceremony was also attended by the French Ambassador, Turkish Ambassador, and Spanish Ambassador.

The signing of the HOA this time is a continuation of defense cooperation between PT Pindad and Nexter after previously both parties agreed to cooperate in the procurement of 120 mm tank ammunition at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris, France on June 14, 2022.

Nexter is a leading French ground defense company and one of the major European players in the ammunition sector which also part of the KNDS Group. Its business scope also includes the supply of weapons and ammunition systems to the air force and navy.

Scope of Cooperation in the signing of the HOA between PT Pindad and Nexter covers a complete range of 120 mm tank ammunition, including SHARD APFSDS, High Explosive and training. Nexter as a leading defense industry has the competence to design and manufacture 120 mm tank ammunition compatible with all Main Battle Tanks equipped with 120 mm NATO smooth bore guns. The cooperation agreement can also encourage strong local manufacturing to strengthen Indonesia's industrial capabilities.

CEO of PT Pindad, Abraham Mose stated that the strategic partnership with Nexter will support PT Pindad in meeting the needs of the TNI regarding large-caliber munitions. "PT Pindad is ready to meet the needs of the TNI in the field of 120 mm Leopard Tank munitions where PT Pindad transfers the product manufacturing from Nexter, France. In the future, PT Pindad also hopes to fulfill the needs of the 120 mm munitions production line for the Leopard Tank manufacturer, which is a holding company with Nexter." Abraham Mose explained.

Pada kesempatan yang sama, PT Pindad juga memperkenalkan produk terbarunya yakni Kendaraan Taktis Ringan 4x4 Mobil Rekacipta Indonesia – MORINO MV CRUISER dan Motor Rekacipta Indonesia – MORINO MOTO EV.

MORINO MV CRUISER merupakan kendaraan taktis ringan 4x4 produksi PT Pindad yang ditujukan untuk mendukung operasi jelajah medan sulit. MORINO MV CRUISER memiliki kemampuan manuver yang gesit dan handal untuk mendukung mobilitas penggunanya di berbagai medan operasi. Dengan menggunakan mesin diesel berdaya 136 HP Kendaraan Taktis ini dapat melaju di kecepatan aman 120 km/jam dan memiliki jarak tempuh hingga 650 km.

Adapun MORINO MOTO EV adalah kendaraan roda dua elektrik produksi PT Pindad yang ditujukan untuk mendukung kebutuhan mobilitas pasukan secara cepat dan senyap. MORINO MOTO EV dibekali dengan motor elektrik berupa baterai 72 V 50 Ah dan memiliki power sebesar 5 kW. Secara performa, MORINO MOTO EV mampu menempuh kecepatan 80 km/jam dan mampu menjangkau jarak tempuh hingga 100 km pada kecepatan 40 km/jam. MORINO MOTO EV merupakan hasil dari inovasi dan pengembangan oleh PT Pindad baik dari proses desain hingga proses produksi. Proses produksi MORINO MOTO EV dilakukan dengan optimalisasi komponen & ekosistem otomotif nasional dengan estimasi nilai TKDN 80%.
