Looks like our military personnel are being treated like VIPs. Specially the chiefs are travelling too much.
The red carpet reception is understandable. What I don't get is why ISPR doesn't post any agenda of such scheduled trips. We are left guessing as to what the real purpose of such visits are. Might be something important , might not be, we the public know nothing.

Remember couple of months ago gov said that only essential foreign trips are allowed ? i'm hoping these are essential visits.

Not everything will be available for public, it's expected. I can understand USA, Canada and Switzerland visit but don't know if lebanon visit was really necessary or not before sending new contingent. There wasn't any ISPR statement either. Anyway like i said before, doesn't really look like we completely stopped the development work.

Yup, this one was certainly essential. This company does MRO for EFT and F-16 engines which are both competing for MRCA competition. Also we sent BAF personnel in Saudi for training. Looks like only thing is left to do is chose a fighter jet and start paying the installment which is main issue amid this economic crisis.

why do you think that ? isnt EFT still one of the option ?

the rafale is also being considered by BAF. Not because the Rafale is better but the fact that it is made by a single country (France) which is willing to look the other way when it comes to human rights issues.

In addition to this , the conditions imposed by france on the use of weapons is nowhere near as strict as that of Germany and Britain which play second fiddle to US interests. Rafales may be open to integration with non-NATO SAM systems due to France's independent foreign policy.

Have I mentioned that the Rafale will be cheaper to purchase and that the financing (imo the biggest factor) will be easier.

I know what are you saying.

But there is merely any serious human rights issue with us. And also our posture is strategically defensive. So use of weapon won't that much of problem.

And Why don't we go for the gripen E ? It will be considerably cheaper than rafale or EFT, plus we will get all the technological capability we need.
May be we can buy 24 gripen with 2.5 billion.

I wasn't pointing the finger at us maybe should have clarified it. The French will sell weapons to their enemies if the money is good (The mistral deal with Russia collapsed only because the russians invaded Crimea in 2014)

The problem is that Sweden is run by centre left governments who won't hesitate to put an arms embargo if anything were to happen to journalists, activists etc.
The same can be said about Germany.
They don't even have a permanent security council vote like France or Britain.
