For Turkey's last AIM-120 purchase in 2014, as per the DSCA logs,
a possible sale of 145 AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), 10 missile guidance sections, and 40 LAU-129 launchers, containers, support equipment, spare and repair parts, integration activities, publications and technical documentation, test equipment, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor logistics, engineering and technical support, and other related elements or logistics and program support. The estimated cost is $320 million.
Excluding the support equipment and further training, should be about 2 mil a piece?

While for the 2008 sale of 107 C-7s, it was $107 million at about 1.4 mil a piece.

  • TÜBİTAK SAGE has been working for a long time to eliminate surface heating problems such as aerodynamic heating encountered in high-speed missiles.In particular, high temperature resistant composite coatings minimize the effect of heating encountered in missiles, thanks to their ablative properties.
  • All of the materials and processes used in these studies were developed at TÜBİTAK SAGE and can be produced at TÜBİTAK SAGE, regardless of abroad.
  • Within the scope of activities that started in 2018, ramjet engine prototypes were produced for supersonic missiles of different sizes and ground tests were carried out with the prototypes produced.
  • Ramjet engine technology (especially integrated rocket ramjet propulsion system technology) has been identified as the most important technological obstacle to the development of tactical missile systems capable of cruising at supersonic speeds, and it was planned to eliminate this technological obstacle before starting the development of such missiles.
  • Many of the technological obstacles in areas such as aerothermodynamics, material and fuel supply have been solved in the development, production and testing of these engines and in the development of engines that can be used in missile systems traveling at supersonic speeds.
  • The aim of the Ramjet engine development is the development of jet engines that will propel the missiles with supersonic cruise capability, which are still ongoing and planned in the near future."

Mr Okumuş about Trisonic wind tunnel:

  • We named our tunnel TÜBİTAK SAGE Trisonic Tunnel –TSTT. TSTT is a blown-type wind tunnel that will allow us to derive aerodynamic data with high precision at the lowest 0.2 times the speed of sound (0.2 mach), and the highest at supersonic speeds, subsonic, sound transition and supersonic speeds.
  • The test chamber is 1.5m x 1.5m in size, there are only 2 other blown type tunnels of this size in the world, ours will be the third.
  • We can say that it will be the most advanced tunnel in the world. The designs of all aerodynamic and mechanical equipment of the tunnel have been completed.
  • We will start the Factory Acceptance Tests for the Compressor and Air Conditioning System within the next month. The works for the transportation of our infrastructures in the field and the supply of the needed electricity have come to an end.
  • We aim to make the first blowing of the tunnel at the end of 2024 and to put it into service after qualification.

  • Studies on propulsion systems (Scramjet), which is currently considered to be the biggest challenge in the development of hypersonic missile systems, started within TÜBİTAK SAGE in recent years.
  • As of the stage we have reached, the development and testing activities of test engines at the laboratory level continue.
  • In addition, studies are carried out on high temperature resistant ceramic materials, nano-doped composite materials, insulation and coating technologies (coatings such as thermal barrier, ablative) needed in hypersonic missile systems.

Bro, it could be that.

But the thing is, for IIR missile like bozdogan I am not sure of the seeker would survive the heating beyond 60km. For example, MICA RF has range up to 80km but IIR variant's range limited to 60km because of its seeker.

Anyway, 50/60km would an insane range for gokdogan already.
Vympel R-27ET? (Effective kill range: Up to 55 km head-on, up to 12.5 tail-on. Maximum range: +100 km. Maximum allowed vertical separation: 12 km.) Infrared mode can be activated at the visible contact stage.

This is extraordinarily good news. It shows the intent to acquire some kind of BVR infrared missile. These missiles will be carried in the side missile sections of the MMU. The enlargement of these weapons compartments and the huge IRST in front of the aircraft canopy foreshadowed something. If this new type of BVR IIR missile can be guided to IIR contact without activating the aircraft's radar, for example by AWACS radar, this missile could be the most dangerous air-to-air munition in this part of the world.

Disagree, in relation to these "leaks". These are only patent applications. They are not yet or soon to be products. Companies have no benefit in disclosing them with PR campaigns until they become actual projects with budget from their own resources or from SSB.

If anything though, it tells a lot that it was a Slavic dude that found and shared them online rather than our homegrown defence media, who became too fixated on only sharing what the SSB or companies gives them, they basically act as further PR agencies and not actual media channels that do journalism. These images are public information, but noone either didn't know of their existence or didn't see the need to share them. Not saying this to bash on them but to point out that media now has to suck in current Turkey, be it defence news or mainstream news.

He said the hypersonic missile project along with air-to-air missiles. Therefore, there is a possibility that the new air-to-air missile will be hypersonic. From 19.20 minutes.
From times quoted for the Typhoon Missile, we can easily say that this missile travels most of its course at hypersonic speeds. If one considers this missile to be flying at a suppressed trajectory at around 70-80km and travel for 561km; total flight distance should be in around 700km. To have covered this distance in 456seconds means that it must have flown most of it’s mid course at hypersonic speeds. So we do have a missile that flies at hypersonic speeds.

Also we know that a faster and longer range version of the Gokdogan a2a missile is being developed. US has an a2a missile in the works with a dual-pulse motor that can fly just over 5mach. (This being the threshold of hypersonic speed). If we can bring out from the bag a rabbit like that then we are at the very nirvana of the missile technology.

But if he is insinuating a scramjet engine powered a2a missile, then it Is a different story altogether. We are not there yet. First we need to get our ramjet powered Gökhan flying.

Many new bright horizons for the defence industry yet to come!
