No matter how you look at it or what the deal includes be it munition, spare engines, spare parts, maintenance, warranty etc. The 79 kits upgrade and the 40 new vipers are way off the charts. A robbery in daylight. How could our DoD or Air Force ever agree on such a thing?

The price tag on this bundle deal is beyond astronomical. It’s totally absurd and we all agree on that.
I hate to turn the thread into a political floor but it’s a fact that Biden administration wants to do sale and the main obstacle is Mr. Menendez.
So, I was just thinking.
Could it be that the administration ‘inflate’ the amount to fire up various constituencies so that they might in return push their congressmen put pressure on Menendez to close the juicy deals. After all, there will be different corporates based at different locations.
If not this, then it’s the Biden administration who actually wanna screw us up by draining our God knows how many years worth of R&D and defense budget.

That sounds absurd.
It doesn’t matter if Turkey has more advanced AAM than AIM-120, because ultimately it can only be integrated with OZGUR jets and few other block 40. (that Turkey has source code of)

Majority of the F-16 still need to use US weapon systems.
Turkiye will change all computers to all f16 and can use its weapons in f16 not only to block 40/30 .

Why getting all this trouble with US instead just buy euro fighter or rafael.
No more drama and begging with US anymore.
If german decided to reject for buying euro fighter then just buy it from france.

EF is not ITAR-free and Macron wouldn't sell Rafales to Turkiye. We asked SAMP/T's from that that bozo ages ago.

A contract worth 1.197.381.949,- US Dollars in total was signed between ASELSAN and TAI regarding the modernization of aircraft.

After news, Aselsan shares went through the roof on the stock exchange today. Just when we were talking about 20 billion dollars, it felt like medicine. A total contract size of over 2 billion dollars indicates a large-scale F-16 modernization? If so, I think Murad-AESA for F-16s is now ready.

Edit to dear Mod's edit:
A total of two contracts were signed.
The first contract is worth 2.618.751.172,- TL and 132.078.069,- USD.
The second contract is worth 18.073.289.646,- TL and 1.065.303.880,- USD.
The total amount of the two project contracts is TL 20,692,040,818 and USD 1,197,381,949. At the current exchange rate, this is around 2 billion dollars.

KAP notification : https://www.kap.org.tr/tr/Bildirim/1171374

The reason for I stating the entire contract in dollars is that if these contracts are related to the modernization of fighter jets, which seems to be the case, it will be easier to compare them with similar examples from world once we know the scope of the contract and how many platforms it covers.

This contract is for the Özgür project and the total value exceeds 2 billion $. This means over a hundred aircraft will be modernized. I think this package includes F-16 block 30s, 40s, and 50s. I think ~150 fighters will be modernized (13,3 million $ per fighter).

40 F-16 Block 70s with CFTs are targeted for acquisition, which will most likely enable the F 4E 2020Ts to be taken out of active service. In addition, 79 B-70 kits are targeted for procurement from the US.

F-16s in the inventory -for reminding-:
- 29 F-16 Block 50+ with CFTs
- 71 F-16 Block 50M
- 102 F-16 Block 40M
- 36 F-16 Block 30TM

A total of 238 jets. The structural life of Block 30s was increased from 8000 to 12000 hours. Considering that the amounts signed with Aselsan are only for the avionics procurement, there may be a modernization plan that will cover around 130 F-16s at a cost of around 15 million dollars per aircraft (just share of Aselsan).

The unanswered question now is "Are we still asking for American upgrade kits or anything F16 at all?".

The US approval is required for Eurofighter too.I know that there are critical components of US origin on the aircraft.

So for the last years SSB claimed that Turkey will have better and more advanced AAM than AIM-120 and AIM-9 , and now Turkey want to buy 600 US made AAM

Either its false news or SSB are lying to us
