Minister of Defence Hulusi Akar and Fleet Commander Ercüment Tatlıoğlu has attended to the live-warhead tests.

The announcement issued by Turkish Navy and the speed of the Minister of Defence:

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, together with Chief of General Staff General Yaşar Güler, went to the Navy Command for the firing test of the AKYA training torpedo, which was produced with national means, to be carried out from the submarine to the target.

Greeted by the Commander of the Navy, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and other officials, Minister Akar later transferred to the Submarine Fleet Command. Greeting the Ceremonial Continent here, Minister Akar went to the TCG PREVEZE submarine with the Chief of General Staff, General Yaşar Güler, with the motto "The Legend of the Depths".

After Minister Akar's arrival in the submarine, TCG PREVEZE left the port. After cruising on the surface for a while, the submarine dived as it approached the training ground. After the preparations made after entering the Submarine Training Area in the Gulf of Izmit in the Sea of Marmara, Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar fired the national torpedo AKYA from TCG PREVEZE.

The AKYA training torpedo, which was produced with national means, successfully completed its firing at the target ship, together with the firing carried out over the national firing system MÜREN. With the shooting, the national torpedo AKYA shot at the real target for the first time.

“SURVIVAL AND WEALTH OF OUR COUNTRY…”

Congratulating all project stakeholders and personnel, especially ROKETSAN and TÜBİTAK, after the successful launch, Minister Akar described submarines as one of the most important elements of the Naval Forces Command.

Stating that submarines are a very effective force, Minister Akar said, "There has been a submarine culture in our history since the 1880s. Even if it was for training and trial purposes, the submarine in which the first shot was made against the ship in those years belongs to us." he said.

Emphasizing the importance of developing this culture and having a strong submarine fleet, Minister Akar said, "We are in favor of peace and tranquility in all seas around us, especially in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Seas. We want solutions to all problems through dialogue, peaceful means and methods. In addition, we want effective and deterrent solutions. "We need a respectable armed forces, more than ever. We are continuing our efforts at an increasing pace to ensure that our Navy, like our other forces, has the latest technology weapons and systems and becomes the strongest." used the phrases.

Pointing out the importance of domestic projects in the defense industry, as well as the AKYA National Heavy Torpedo Project realized in this context, Minister Akar said:

"Meeting the needs of not only the Turkish Armed Forces but also friendly and brotherly countries is an important task for us. This is clearly seen in the activities we have carried out so far. We will continue our work at an increasing pace and pace. Under the leadership, encouragement and support of our President, important progress has been made in the defense industry. We have made our light weapons, howitzers, ATAK helicopters, UAVs and TİHAs, our ships... Thus, we continue our efforts to increase the rate of local and nationality, which reaches 80 percent, day by day. We are aware that this chapter will be more difficult and challenging. We will continue our work with determination and determination without giving up. We will continue our successes with one fist and one heart from now on, as we have done so far. We have done what needs to be done for the survival and welfare of our country, and we will continue to do so in the future. "

*the warhead was live, but possible unarmed and without explosives. The loaded torpedo was a training torpedo and it was collected after the experiment. SINKEX will be carried out in Black Sea.

The tests with AKYA torpedo has reached above 100 with the latest.
More tests to follow. The Torpedo is yet to be ready for a serial production by end of 2022 or Q2 of 2023 after completion of the remaining several tests, especially on wake-homing.
After completion we will also hear another update on the range.

How do you like your Akya Mark II,
Longer range, or
Higher speed.

Shaken, not stirred
seriously, it sounds like a tricky question so I would pick none above and say upgraded and optimum performance for a second Mk.

Rolling the topic back to the Turkish torpedo programs:

Orka technological development program was awarded to Aselsan, for guidance and propulsion system control (mainly electronics, ie. whatever inside the hull except the explosive).

Orka produduct development program was awarded to Roketsan, for explosive + hull + coating + readiness for serial production, will have differences from the technological development phase (expected: propulsion type)

From now on we may hear from some sources that Aselsan continues Orka project, while Roketsan is also doing so from other sources; they are technically handling separate parts of a single projects overseen by SSB.

Akya will be introduced to TN inventory solely for test purposes (warhead, guidance effectiveness, many other stuff to be not disclosed by anyone official) in 2022. Serial production will commence in last quarter of 2022 following the tests.
Dear @Anmdt ;
Nearly one year passed since Orka technological development program announced. Any new news exist about it ? Can we expect some test at 2023 ? In my opinion, it is very important project like Akya. Also I want to ask another thing. At roketsan brochure as a target only submarines is defined for Orka. Is it possible to use them against big ships ? What is your assessment abaout it ? With my respects...

There are several setbacks on the project, both parties are handling different sides. I expect Roketsan to conduct a test in Q1 but unsure if Aselsan will ever conduct a test at sea, or simply deliver the items/components after the closed tests and let the tests be conducted finally on Roketsan's torpedo by end of 2023.

For serial production we are looking at 2024 as before, but with delay of a quarter.

For the use against surface targets; initially the torpedo is optimized for underwater targets but in later blocks as the USVs are being widely adopted, they may develop multi-target or surface-target optimized versions.

Do we have any very lightweight torpedo project going on like Northrop's? It is an interesting concept, it weighs only like third of what Mk-54 does, can be used both offensively and defensively and can be used from a lot of different platforms.

The UÇA air launched mine which will have Underwater Acoustic IFF (Friend-Foe Identification) System, will have pressure, vibration, magnetic anomaly and acoustic sensors. UÇA wing assisted air launched smart mine was developed thanks to experience and technology gained from smart Malaman mine program. Launching trials start in the end of this year.

Alright. This will be released by an air platform afar from the water intended to be mined without risking the platform and the crew.
What I don’t understand is this ‘mine’ does not look like a conventional mine.
Hydrodynamics involved here is beyond me, Mr. Layman, but I would wanna know how this thing will have any buoyancy in the water? Or will it just float on the surface? I mean, it looks like a drop bomb that would have sank to the bottom of the sea.
Anybody take the challenge and tell in simple terms to me?
Thank you

EDIT:
I found it. It will simply sink to the bottom (like I guessed) and trace for enemy vessels and through its acoustic magnetic and traces of pressure via its multiple sensors.
All I had to do was to read.
My bad. 👍

UÇA has acoustic and radar-absorbing coating. It will be hard to detect in flight with radars and underwater with mine detection sonars.

I hope we'll learn something new about Orka in Idef, there hasn't been any news about it for a long time now.

And more importantly, Tork.

Imo, Orka is more important for us right now, because, while we have other ways of protecting our ships against torpedoes (even though Tork project could potentially be much better than passive defense) we don't have a lightweight torpedo option of our own. We need that for our helicopters, USV and even UAV's, we shouldn't rely on foreign countries for such a critical weapon.
