ASEAN BAC’s roadmap for digital transformation are interesting for me, it is simple but just interesting, especially the interoperable QR payment.
You may think, we ASEAN need common currency to make economic activities to be seamless across ASEAN, yes that would help a lot, but current situation could be overcome by using interoperable QR payment. So, you may go to Thailand and you don’t have Baht, don’t worry, open your QR payment apps (Indonesian apps even, from existing mobile banking or apps like, Goto’s Gopay, OVO, etc), pay through the app. And you may think this thing don’t have great impact, you wrong, it can unlock transaction value of $4 billion annually (BCG analysis).
And this must be widen that even MSME can take payment by using the QR too. Could be made by giving the MSME the loan that they may can’t take before by conventional way (bank for example, so they must take loan from bank plecit, could be from risky loanshark backed by preman pasar) through digital loan from apps or bank. This one also the next priority they have for digital transformation after this QR thing.
This very roadmap made by many consulting companies; McKinsey, BCG, PwC etc and others, no doubt this very sound and yet simple.
