Recall, Rota invited 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka, who served in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician), a Nazi Germany military formation, to the Parliament of Canada during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on September 22. When this came to light, Rota apologized, saying that he only later became aware of "additional information" that made him regret that decision. Jemal was kind to Armenians while he mainly deal with Syrian Arabs,but finally murdered by Armenians

It comes from what I mentioned earlier: the deschenes commision.

The group and many such groups were found "not sufficient evidence to prosecute/condemn collectively" etc. by Canada at that point.

So they are always on rolodex of Canadian politics whenever outreach is needed with ukrainian-canadian populations in key vote areas (now transmuted to foreign policy + following US state dept lead) etc.

The current "whoops, sorry" is embarrassment driven rather than structural principle driven....otherwise there would have long been screening and policy application for censure on such groups for longer time well before the RUS-UKR war.
