Is there also a ASBM Variant ?
I hate initialism.
Anti Ship Ballistic Missile ?
There was talk about Bora having a version that would have a 4 to 500 km range and be able to hit moving sea targets.
Nothing actually clarified with respect to Tayfun having the capability to hit a moving sea target. It just needs the right seeker head and/or two way data link for course correction. With the latest statements regarding different warheads and different versions, I wouldn’t be surprised if they produced one with anti ship capabilities.
Tayfun, according to ”intentionally” released flight times and distances may have travelled a total of around 700+km in 458seconds, if you take in to consideration that it had to go up around 80km due to a presumed suppressed trajectory, and come down same distance as it was slowing; Meanwhile managing to travel point to point, 561km.
That means it has flown at high hypersonic speeds during its mid course. That would make it very difficult to intercept, especially if it manages to manoeuvre during mid course in three dimensions. That leaves terminal stage for interception. Many tactical missiles are intercepted at terminal stage. Unless a saturation attack is envisaged, it is difficult to evade a good modern anti ballistic missile system. We have seen examples of this in Karabakh with Iskander and Barak-8; Also with Kinzhal and Patriot in Ukraine.
Having data link and manoeuvrability may prove to be the key in evaiding anti ballistic missiles to a degree.
