In order to improve the properties of steel parts used in the automotive industry, using the electrochemical based boring method developed by the project team, it can be used as a final product with high wear resistance, high hardness, self-lubrication, impact absorption, high performance new generation boronized steel parts with fully national resources and technologies. High-alloy steels are used in automotive, especially in cases where friction, corrosion, wear are in question (gear gear, piston segment, valves, etc.) and for flat parts where impact resistance is required, and additionally costly surface treatments (chrome plating, carburizing, nitriding, stellite etc.) are applied. In the project, the surfaces of relatively inexpensive steel parts used in mid-low segment cars and due to the material composition are modified with KRTD-Boron (Cathodic-Reduction Thermal-Diffusion Method Boring) method to develop new products that provide high performance and service life and design is the main goal. It is predicted that the iron boride (FeBX x? 0.5) layers to be formed on the selected steel surfaces will increase the service life and performance as a result of the preliminary studies and literature data. metal boride MeXBY compounds (Me: Metal X, Y? 0,5) are formed on the surface by penetrating inside with the effect of heat. National KRTD-Boron is fast (minimum 8 times), economical (5-100 times depending on the number of cycles) according to the foreign-patented box / pie boring method that is dominant in the world. Considering these advantages, the obstacle (high cost and long processing times) in the spread of boring technology is overcome with KRTD-Boron. Thus, the use of boron in our country and in the world will increase. Our country will provide a competitive advantage in this expanding market by using the national method in the production of end products with high added value and its own boron reserves. The new generation boron automotive parts have a high commercialization potential with the breakthroughs in the automotive sector in our country in recent years. As an example of the economic return of the project, the annual consumption of the engine-valves produced by imported or licensed is 870x106 pieces. (1.11x109 Euros). With the boron steels to be developed as a result of the project, it will be possible to become a technology leader in this and similar product market.
