I hope that no bootlicker is going to start celebrating this as anything but another obstacle we got past. Until those block 70 land in Türkiye, I don’t trust the deal to survive.

I guess the TuAF needs is great enough to warrant the LOA on 23 B USD. I just hope that payment will occur on delivery and such. and we don't end up having more money held ransom.

"But Turkey is now pushing to buy fewer upgrade kits and munitions to save billions of dollars amid spending cuts at home, according to people familiar with the planning, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The country wants its developing military aviation industry to handle some of its needs, the people said. Turkey’s defense and foreign ministries declined to comment."

So we are asking for permission to widen the implementation of the OZGUR program?

It‘s not unusual to ask for a maximum of possible FMS items and then scaling back the numbers during negotiations.

Nobody wants to go through the approval hassle with US Congress again if you want to place an additional order. Therefore I never expected Türkiye to order the full package of approved items for outrageously high $20+ billion …

I agree... also, as soon as this bill had passed through the Senate etc. we should have had a second bill for the purchase of 12-24-48 F404 for Hürjet pushed through.

Immediate purchase of 12, and the others at a later date (optional).

Indeed, but number of mod kits wasn’t just a haggling tactic. 119 Viper number(40 new, 79 modded) was touted by the air force first. Presumed plan was to divide the F-16 fleet in two nearly 50/50. Some squadrons would just run Vipers, while others would just run the Özgür aircraft.

We haven’t heard anything about increasing the number of Özgür aircraft, so if we go by lower number of mod kits, in the end we will have 3 F-16 fleets. Viper, Özgür and 40-50 legacy block 40s. That wasn’t the original plan. That’s a loss in capability.

Maybe they have something else in the works, maybe EF sale is going well now and they will divide resources to there, or F-35 is back on the cards 😅

True, the number of F-16 upgrade kits weren‘t unreasonable but the price tag was insane 😉 US MIC has inflationary prices every year.

Our Air Force would like to operate ~100 F-35A, the politicians gave them only 60 to work with because of rising costs.

Or maybe the economy is so bad that Turkey has problems with financing.

Turkish forex is higher than ever been. I don't think this is the issue. No one in their right mind would pay $23 billions no matter the situation.
