Imagine being some random young men, no one knew your names three weeks ago. And then suddenly you are negotiating with the president on national government formation. This is gotta be a really unique story for gen Z in history of the world.

Economist and civil society leader Muhammad Yunus will lead Bangladesh's interim government, the presidency has said. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country amid a violent uprising.

Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus will lead Bangladesh's interim government after the resignation of Premier Sheikh Hasina, according to President Mohammad Shahabuddin office.

Student leaders of protests in Bangladesh had said they do not want an army-led interim government but rather one advised by Yunus.

The announcement came after a meeting with Bangladesh's army chief, General Waker-uz-Zaman, who said the previous day that an interim government would be formed, without giving details about who would lead it.

Bangladesh's president also dissolved the parliament on Tuesday.

The dissolution of the legislature had been a key demand of the protesters.

Yunus' office had earlier confirmed Tuesday that he has agreed to be an adviser for an interim government before he was announced as chief.


In an interview with India's The Print, Yunus said Bangladesh had been "an occupied country" under Hasina.

"Today, all the people of Bangladesh feel liberated," he added.

This is going to be insane if stand in election. 95% of older people will vote for BNP. I was planning to vote for them too. But if he stand in election (I doubt he would) I may end up voting for him. I think all the students will do the same.

I'd like to see yunus in this interim period and as long as possible. Sound moderate, technocrat, good connect with the people through grameen etc.

This can be the kind of thing to long term change BD politics for the better too....especially if good merit based party forms around Yunus with future political careers there.

Its time to do away with BAL, BNP etc (they have too much baggage and corruption) and reform some new things for this century....and earn good credibility and trust with BD population long term (we are from you rather than you are our pawns etc).

BAL and BNP ofc arent going to recede so easily.

I had to check his age (was hoping for 70s)...but hes 84 though. He looks younger than that to me, hope a long life for him and best for him.

Yunus was fulcrum of conversation between me and my best BD buddy in real life when we were on long driving trip together.

Grameen, nobel prize, but at that point of time, Hasina had reacted in loud way against Yunus announcing his entry into politics (as grenade attack on her earlier was raw in her mind still - combined with existing defensive + BAL ego mode).

That was when he explained to me at quite some depth (given his dad is big corp. guy in BD, bonafide rags to riches story, a muktijodda too, one of best Bong elderfolk you can meet and know), about BAL/SHW and BNP too.... he gave very fair objective take (his dad has had to rub shoulders with both, even served as minister in BNP time in one technocratic area). It still forms a good 50% chunk basis of my political knowledge for BD.

But with all that in mind, this is why its good to see potential arc for Yunus to have in politics now. Hope he lives long for that though. BD needs him around.

Some people are asking this type of question like if she steps down/gets killed by mob then who will be the alternative? This is waaay too early to answer these type of questions. First thing people need to do is removing this fascist.

There are lots of problem we'll have to deal with after this like making a corruption, extortion, oppression, nepotism free, democratic country free from other countries clutches. It'll take years to achieve it, won't be an easy path.

Bad guys never resign easily. Sacrifice will be necessary.

P.S:- The part above was written before Hasina bibi fled country. Now we've achieved our first goal!! I had a great experience for four days. Got a great story to tell. Hopefully I will share some of our photos & videos Inshallah!! Lots of things to say & discuss now that I've free time.

Hasina fled the country and can come back to power again unless she stands trial in BD. Let me remind you of how it went in Pakistan.

I don't know dr. Yunus, but will believe in your enthusiasm and joy. I however believe that it's necessary to introduce reformist people and powers to root out what has taken root since Hasina came to power.

I just hope that Tarikats don't lift their heads too much or get too much to say. They're the last you want in any kind of power play.

Well, BAL has gone extinct. Hassina won't ever going to come back. It was a revolution as the title suggest. Of course, there is lot of works need to be done as @Isa Khan pointed out.
