Personally want at least one of the Harpers, our LPD are just too small.
That just doubled tonnage of KRI Semarang, with well deck completely removed for cargo.

If the hull are cheap, and no need more MLU (since its last MLU occur at 2009) why didnt we pick it up and put at AD or AL transport vessel. Tho whidbey class still favorable for me to replace all Forch class.

But if i allowed to day dreaming, San Juan Class is more sophiscated 😂

And what's wrong with using WW2 era gun? A gun is a gun is a gun no matter how old the design! What really matter is whether you can hit your intended target with it (bullet placement). In actual practice it's always "The men behind the gun" that count not the gun itself.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it~~

If anything if it's up to me, i would like to take of some Henry J Kaiser class. Our are currently in planing to building several ocean going large Frigates in which had great range on itself. And surely we are building large number of LPD fleets for whatever reason we had. Coupled them with this class of ocean going AO and practically we can have a decent squadron of task force units.

*Tarakan class is still too small and under equipped for long range task voyage which needed high endurance to accomodate such task force units.

A gun is a gun but I think for a rifle of that age (and rarity), it deserves to be in someplace nicer like a museum.
If I shot you with WW2 era Karbine (7.92mm) is will guarantee it hurt a whole a lot more and bleed more compare of getting shot by brand-new fancy expensive FN-SCAR (5.56mm). I managed to take down numerous babi rusa, wild boar and even kitty cat with that rifle

If there is any chance to transfer for both Harpers and Whidbey ,it shouldn't be missed. Both are well armed with 2x Phalanx, 2x RAM compared to Indonesia's under armed LPD's ,might give some insight for training and new LPDs or some parts can be scrapped in future and transferred to newly build, or already in service LPDs.

It may not be compatible with some ports because of the draft to load or unload and such, but it has got 18 (12 when decommissioned) more years of service and still in good condition, not heavily used.

People may wonder why these are being retired earlier than planned, probably USN wants to switch to LX(R) class, US had a long term plan from 80s to combine ship classes under the same hulls and common equipment to lower maintenance cost.

Both Whidbey and Harper has their docks.
They lack an hangar.

That's not my point and I know how ammunition works. Obviously, a rifle cartridge will hit harder than an intermediate one, regardless of whether or not the gun is old or new so your comparison was flawed, to begin with. A better comparison is whether you'll take the K98k or the FG42 to battle (since both fire 8mm Mauser). Sure, a gun is only as good as its shooter, but the FG42 is select fire and has a 20 round box magazine. Which one will you rather take?

What I'm saying is that it's a piece of history and should be put in a museum. From the picture you can tell that this isn't just a BAR, it's an FN Model D, a very rare version of the BAR. Not many of them were produced and I would rather see it somewhere nice in a museum for the masses to enjoy than continuing to press it into active service.

Here's Ian with said gun:

IMHO, if its just one way trip tu support our Peacekeeping force at africa. Tarakan still capable for one way trip. Furthermore about building Large combatan frigates, i think PAL still occupied and didnt have such capability right now, refering to PKR works that only have share for joining parts i didnt think about fully produce large combatant soon enough.

What i've read before the stell that form the hull of frigate and or LHD such as KRI Semarang are diffetent type.
And we lacking such metalurgy knowledge to forge such metal steel.

CMMIW tho,
Well after all, in conjunction if you build Iver with less armament than original, its only become another braden - wurtenberg class, much tonnage and sensor, but less "sangar" 🤣🤣

Well, even if we could build 64 vls frigate, all of its fang will be france made not americano.

Oops, my fault.
The Harper Sacrifice LCU capability for more space, they tranform to become Assault Amphibious. Although both Harper and Whidbey can accomodate Osprey to land.

Imho Portable hangar should become handy if nessecary.

San Juan is not yet slated for retirement.
Yes, that still an new ship with semi stelath design, something that PLN Type 071 copy

Its make some question tho, why 216 are more expensive than 218 ?

Also is that Dolphin 2 are derived from 214 ?

216 is a very large sophisticated SSK (90metre) , they use state of the art Lithium Ion Batteries , resulting in a enormous endurance performance , i think they were taking part in the australian submarine tender to replace their collins class , but lose against DCNS barracuda SSK variants , the Attack class .

so it's not really that weird if it's more costly .

4000 tons for a submarine is very heavy. And yet another pro contra of heavy submarine being use in Indonesian Archipelago.

As type 216 it said to be 80 days of endurance are more than 4 weeks submerged, plus got a vertical launch system.

I dont know why our goverment never eye an newly designed armament with state of the art tech. Its could benefit us more tho.

Litteraly i dont know exactly what is that our goverment want to achieve, a quantity in "alutsista" or quallity ? Every procurement never touch either of them.
