You are wrong, because of the US' stance Türkiye becomes important for some European countries.
I said that what is happening inside Turkiye makes the supply of Eurofighter less likely. Do you think that the supply of Eurofighter to Turkiye is as likely as it was before Erdogan locked up the mayor of Istanbul?

Funny how a university qualification awarded some time ago was suddenly 'withdrawn'. They must have suddenly decided to remark his papers and after all these years decided his qualification had been mistakenly awarded to him, mustn't they? That was the qualification required to stand for election to be president, wasn't it? What a coincidence!

President Erdogan is making himself look like a would be tin pot dictator who wants to preside over a democracy in name but a tin pot dictatorship in reality.

I see Eurofighter supply to Turkiye (assuming that Turkiye actually agrees terms for a deal) as a contest between one faction wanting to benefit the European MIC and another wanting to defend democracy in Europe.

Out of curiosity, is Eurofighter of interest simply to counter Greece's Rafale? Is there any other threat requiring TuAF to field something superior to F-16?

I would much prefer F-35 over Eurofighter, F-35 can easily counter Rafale. But the likelihood of us getting F-35 is slim. Israeli lobby wouldn’t allow it. The reason they are getting eurofighter is for diversification of fighters and access to meteor missile.

I don't quite follow the comment on an Israeli veto on F-35. If they have one, how come Turkiye joined the F-35 programme in the first place? If Eurofighter's main attraction is Meteor but a deal is not arranged, would Gripen E be of interest (if Sweden would supply)?

I think we should wait and see. I think the economic woes Türkiye is in is going to hit those new fighterjets hard. I am pretty sure that many of these defense projects are going to slow down a lot. Without an economy no serial production.

1. When Turkey joined F35 programme, Israel and Turkey were best buddies
2. Only after the 2015 coup against Erdogan did we start falling out with Israel
3. Gripen is not in the same caliber as Typhoon.
4. Gripen has US engine and a lot of parts that are sourced from US.
5. Apart from the Meteor, Typhoon has twin engines. Almost twice the thrust of Gripen.
6. The ECRS-MK2 GaAs-GaN hybrid radar British Typhoons have, is in a different class of its own. Presumed as the best Aesa radar in any western jet.
7. Typhoon can carry 4 tons more payload and can fly 4500m higher.
8. Typhoon can supercruise at over 1.5 Mach (Gripen can manage 1.1)

USA and Turkey will begin technical talks on F-35.

-Al Monitor
Greatest mistake ever IMO
Turkey should really abondon the idea of buying the F35s and instead concentrate on KAAN with some Typhoons as a stopgap measure

The money spent on F35s can be better spent on the KAAN prongram instead

UBAS (Aircraft Independent Firing System)

was also integrated as a plug and play solution to Azerbaijani SU-25s, giving capability to use modern munitions such as SOM.

I hope we can actively export this solution especially for Soviet/Russian origin aircraft. It can be a boost to munition sales.

British Eurofighter retirements give us a new clue.

Of 49 Typhoon T1s,

4 remain in active service.
10 are set aside as spare-part aircraft for T2/T3s.
29 are to be disposed of.
4 will be used for ground training aids.

And 2 are being considered for sale.

Those two should be the ones we will get for training purposes.

One reason why we want to purchase F-35 was, the share of work, of estimated $ 14 billion for our industry. Now, after more and more countries will cancel or reduce the number of F-35, we will never get that estimated income of $ 14 billion.

No single country reduced or cancelled their orders yet.

We could still get share of work without purchasing F-35s.

Presumably we will never get anything as I really doubt Turkey returning to the program as a manufacturer is in the cards at all at this stage.
