This is nothing new. The Pakistanis ran to Clinton to intervene in 1999. And now Trump. I am sure they are brave as all soldiers. But they seemed to confuse good tactics for good strategy.

It is not clear at this point if it was Modi or Pakistanis that ran to US.

Will show them or disclose losses at the end of operations. Military bosses have to give briefings to parliamentary committees on defence. Truth cannot be hidden in open democracies run by civilian govt.

It took an amount of time for the US and GW1 for same reason. A full debrief and analysis when all OPSEC and alert are fully over.

Tom Cooper says ~ 4 Indian aircraft probably brought down, but the end result is clear cut Indian victory given the damage on Pakistani military infra by ladder escalation to there (for first time by India)....along with the initial A2G payloads on terrorist targets (again for first time at this scale in 2 NWS context).

Goes into some of the IAD, missiles and that its a matter of solutions (and scale), there is no such thing as a wonderweapon.

I love tom we have been talking a lot on facebook since 2017 but when it comes to this conflict he is kinda on pro Indian side, I doubt losing 4 modern jets is a clear victory for IAF, Congrats on downing a Mirage III tho.

No not clear victory for IAF. Cooper meant the bigger picture stuff (airforces, air defences, missiles and then whatever ground force etc were involved too....there was no real naval engagement this time)....in that India had a clear cut victory in what is demonstrated (basically hard infra destroyed one-way with little retaliation...especially between two nuclear-armed countries, its fairly unprecedented).

Since this involved lot of drone vs IAD and then some combination of brahmos/scalps etc (and the brahmos could have been both ALCM and regular ground-ground one too, its unclear still). The BDA one way is telling on this.

As for mirage 3, the media is saying a lot but its unclear, we have to wait for proper debrief.

When it says "Pakistani mirage" on the slide in IAF presser, it likely means the more general meaning of word "veil/illusion" rather than specifically claiming that debris in same slide is a mirage 3 or 5 etc.

We just have to wait and see.

In Gulf War 1 for example (which had a fairly specific end-date unlike the next one that went much longer as campaign), it took quite some time for proper debriefing etc. USAF had heavily invested into SEAD by this point too, and they still took some attrition from Iraqi SAMs. Then there was that F-18 shot down by a Mig 25 that took decades for them to find evidence for.

This one will be more clear cut as to IAF losses as its nowhere near a campaign duration....just 4 days etc....but still we have to give some time for debrief and then structured analysis of what went wrong and what went ok and what went right etc...whether for IAF or the other force structures involved with the missiles and IAD etc.

Then India has to bulk up and improve depending on this.

Rafale was indeed lost, sorry to say but i see this conflict as a Pakistani victory as India also lost more planes.

A military campaign is decided by the objective and not decided by the loss of one type of particular jet.
