This Thread is for the Anime Lovers of the Forum who wish to discuss both Mangas and Anime.

Let me get the ball rolling.

So i like to watch alot of anime and one of the recent anime movies, i saw was "koe no Katachi" aka Silent Voice.

This movie was absolutely amazing and its deep theme is the word "Koe" which means Voice. Now the premise of the film is that a boy bullies a young deaf girl who is nothing but nice to him and while the entire class bullies the girl as well, when he gets called out for taking it too far, his class abandons and declares him the sole bad guy. The movie is all about him trying to find meaning in his life by trying to redeem himself only to discover that he neither forgave himself nor despite his absolute best, he never asked for her forgiveness. Now this is the premise and i wont spoil the movie but its a great watch.

Death Parade a 12 episode anime that pretty much hit me hard.

The concept is that whoever passes on comes to the bar by an elevator, and there is given a test, and during these tests people truly discover who they are, towards loved ones...

The theme of this film is “Koe”, that is, “Voice”. now the first difference you would notice in the title is that the Kanji “声” for “Voice” which is how Japanese use Voice for daily usage is not used but the old chinese word “聲”, which basically means all forms of communication aka hand, ear voice. Its communication. I may be wrong since i speak neither language and my, japanese and Chinese is extremely beginner however the entire movie is the premise of communication. In the movie when shoyo is fighting shoko, he keeps saying i dont understand you. She was a human being but was treated differently because of communication. We take communication fore granted but real communication works two ways. Here, when one party could not understand or could not use the accepted norms of communication, she was bullied. In his guilt, shoyo does the same thing and when he is bullied alot, he turns himself off and we see in the entire movie how he sees people with an X mark on their faces since he shuts himself off and the mark only removes itself when he truly starts to communicate. Its not just good. You get bad and good.

Another incident that i truly loved. Shoko confesses to shoyo her love for him but he couldnt understand her due to her speech impediment due to being deaf. She wants to say "I love you" but instead says "I love the moon". Now here is the kicker. Shoyo looks at the moon and says yeah the moon is big and awesome and she doesnt get through but here is the thing, "I love the moon" is a genuine way of confessing in Japanese. You say this when you are too shy to confess. The receiver of the confession actually understands this and either answers "I love you" or "I love the moon too". She got the confession right. The problem was not the words but the communication. They didnt have the communication between them for him to understand her. Later when she tries to commit suicide he truly understand that despite everything there was a huge lack of communication between them. That he didnt understand here and then he figures out that he never asked for her forgiveness. She wasnt mad at him or anything but his bullying had left the scar that she did not want to live in this world and he needed to ask for her forgiveness to give her that reason and through that get his reason to live and communicate. The manga focuses on after the anime which ended at the festival and the premise is that they are trying to understand each other and become attached to each other.

Moral of the story is that true communication does not require a person to give you long and coherent lectures.

I am going to download this tonight. :)

If we are talking about shounen then apart from the titans like one piece, seven deadly sins or attack of the titans themselves, there is plunderer which is very very similar to seven deadly sins. Then we have black butler. I have been meaning to watch this one.

In black butler you have a rich boy in france who has lost his parents and he has a super awesome butler with him. Turns out that the boy has sold his soul to the butler which is the devil in return for help in finding the killers and so he goes to investigate the crimes in his surrounding to find out the truth.

Ummm then detective conan is another. I am on 160 episode whereas I have downloaded about 900+ of them which is about a genius teenage detective who was fed a poison that turned him into a boy. Now to find out about the organization that turned him into one, he is helping a D grade detective become the best in the world so that he can figure out the truth

Magic kaito is another , a magician who is investigating a sketchy organization which killed his father and he does this by stealing a gem that they are searching for and he does this by using magic to steal.

Stories may sound linear but they are not. They are all pretty amazing.

Shounen stuff are always super feel good, and fun.

For people who're more into MMORPG I can recommend Sword Art Online (1 and 2). There are others like Overlord too where the protagonist takes on a more sinister roll.

Fairy Tails is also a nice Shounen anime full of fun and magic. The manga is completed so people has a chance of finishing the story, as Anime often don't complete the story.

Same goes for Bleach, and Naruto. But I'd have to remind people that anime's normally are full of filler episodes that kinda ruins the overall storyline (IMO).

I watched Aishite free kick back in the 90's in turkish tv, and a bit Dragon Ball, but the art in the football anime was best. Then came Captain Tsubasa, which wasn't that cool, but fun nevertheless.

I ended up buying the manga in hardprint until 2006, where I discovered online manga scanlation.

I've been in the scanlation business too :)

I was physically disgusted by this. I dont think there is a future for our friendship.
You should read Otoyomegatari (y)

Set on the Silk Road that connected Asia with Europe before the modern times. The story of Amira, a woman skilled in archery and horsemanship, sent to marry Karluk, a boy from another village who is 8 years younger than her. But all is not well, as her village decides to take her back...

I see black lagoon being mentioned a few times.

Worthy one....I've always enjoyed that part of the world too (Bangkok/Thailand, which iirc was being imitated for the overall locale)...throw in bunch of misfits into a PT boat....good stuff. Liked their approach to that whole russian syndicate too.... ex-afghan war vets....blyat!

I think what really shows anime's potential is how serious the content can be. For those who do not understand, it's just cartoons that can't compare to Disney.

But in Japan the content of manga and anime are split into different categories.

Shounen = Young man

Josei = Young woman

Seinen = Older men/women

and so on, while some of it is mostly "feel good" stuff, you can suddenly run into something that gives you a "wow" effect.

Sort of like first time you watched Braveheart or when you've read one of Haruki Murakami's works.

Hayao Miyazaki has given us treasures more in line with our time like how Walt Disney did.

I give you Dystopia...

Ergo Proxy

You could always watch the "Monogatari" series to get a "huh?" feeling :)
