It isn't. I think he's just playing on the audience and the "hypersonic" buzzword. Majority of laymen don't know what an HGV or terminal course correction is, they only think that the weapon is so fast that it cannot be intercepted.

All MRBMs (+1000km range) reach hypersonic speeds by their nature and nearly all of them go twice as fast. Being hypersonic doesn't mean anything. İkinci knows this, but his audience doesn't.Tafyun block 4 being able to maneuver and hit the target at hypersonic speeds that is definetly not something all MRBMs can do.

Murat ikinci specifically addressed this claim: "All ballistic missiles can reach speeds over 5 Mach. What is important here is going over 5 Mach during the course and striking the target over 5 Mach. When we look from this perspective Tayfun block 4 is a hypersonic ballistic missile"

If it has a second pulse for terminal hypersonic velocity, think about the possibilities when you integrate terminal guidance. Probably one shot and one kill for ships.

Bro, Murat İkinci clearly specified this as a “hypersonic “ missile.
It is classified as a manoeuvrable missile.
I know very well that even missiles like Bora may be bordering hypersonic speeds during mid flight. But Tayfun is much faster and Block-4 is supposed to manoeuvre. You do not unveil a missile as “hypersonic” if it doesn’t conform to the hypersonic missile parameters.

quote:

Technically, the classification of TAYFUN Block 4 as a hypersonic ballistic missile is notable. Conventional ballistic missiles reach hypersonic speeds during their midcourse phase. However, what distinguishes advanced hypersonic systems is sustained high-speed maneuverability, especially during terminal descent. Turkish defense analysts suggest that Block 4 may feature a refined solid-fuel propulsion system delivering higher thrust-to-weight efficiency and enabling a depressed trajectory profile. This trajectory reduces detection windows and compresses adversary reaction times.

unquote.

In all honesty, looking at what Israel got US doing for itself and how they bombed Iran together, we need not advertise too much about our ballistic missile capabilities. A lot of it should be done under wraps.
But unfortunately anything under wraps is not good political propaganda material.

Not really sharing any real critical data.

how much secrecy can you realistically expect when satellites can immediately pick up the exhaust plume and track the missile's speed and trajectory during tests? i agree that we should not boast them much as we can't really sell them and they're strategic weapons but keeping them completely secret might be unrealistic.

We can just assume, that is the tip of the iceberg, to make propaganda for own people. To let the rivals think and speculate, what can be under the tip of iceberg. But you can be sure. There is something. How much? We don’t know.
It is a mix of deterrence (propaganda) and leaving the enemy in unclear.

I hope ROKETSAN would work on cluster warheads, albeit in a low percentage, the Iranian ones seem to be most effective against Israeli AD.
I wonder where Iran got that technology know-how from.

I assume CIA and MOSSAD have more information than our so called defence experts.
