PT PAL expects contract for third and fourth Red White frigates in 2026
PT PAL expects a procurement contract for Indonesia's third and fourth Red White frigates to be signed in 2026, the company's CEO Kaharuddin Djenod told Janes in a recent interview.
The follow-on vessels will retain the form factor of the first two Red White frigates but are designed to accommodate enhanced combat capabilities, Djenod said.
“It will not have more than 64 VLS [vertical launching system] cells as that's the maximum for this design,” he said. “But each of the cells and venting systems in the VLS can potentially accommodate larger missile types.”
This approach would allow the Indonesian Navy to enhance the class's overall combat effect without increasing the number of launch cells.

That's still not certain. There's a rumor that the British lender financing the third and fourth Merah Putih frigates requires CAMM to be included as one of the ships' armaments. If that's true, then you can imagine what the rest of the SEWACO will be.
And will your country accept a lender meddling in your defence procurement ?
Well, that depends on how the negotiations with the British. I don't think the government would simply accept it as it is. We'll see what happens in the future.

Exporting defence to west should be limited and just enough to use for PR. Exporting for a few 100 million is peanuts and doesn't really benefit our country in the long run. I think an arms deal should include commercial deal too. So if they import for 100 million. Missiles and such, they should import consumer products for 100 million too.
Only direct benefit we offer is shorter lead times on munitions and drone tech. All the rest is stuff they can make themselves or buy from many other interested sellers. We simply do not have such a luxury to reject a business proposal.
