Some of the stuff we're working with atm. SMART energy management in office buildings.

View attachment 8812

How advanced is this stuff in Turkey ?
I once worked in an office which is called smart, adjusted humidity, temperature "efficiently" by itself and there wasn't any controls available to us (it was controlling some windows and shades too).
Can't tell it was a good experience. :p
New offices are adapting this but i don't really know up to which level.

Smart buildings are key to reducing co2 footprints. Buildings are caregorized according to grades here in Denmark, e.g energy certificates.

Ooooh.....my head aches!

I read HISTORY, for Heavens sake.

Hehe Himmel!

Though this has some bearing on the history of the heavens in a way *chortles*...brings it all together.

Sorry for the headache ...I like to offer you a buffet old friend, and you may partake of what you please as you want...but maybe the selection is overdone sometime heh.

Well i am glad to see another example in macro scale. Thanks for the information and the math.(y)

Would like to add, even at this scale, there is a fine line to cross for it to happen. Jupiters 4th (major) moon Callisto is far enough away from the other 3 that it is not in resonance lock.

Same thing with the planets around the Sun, some of them at some points may have been in resonance with each other in the past. i.e some of their orbital periods are very close to fractions of each other etc, but they aren't anymore now given the distances and larger forces in play etc are significant enough to overcome any passing resonant interactions.

That horrible shower does Configurational Fluid Dynamics (and other things) for a living!

Its amazing what this field can do when you have the access to the computational power, know-how (far above what I am comfy with) and of course the large industrial, logistical and science+engg pool...

I will be watching this development next year quite closely:

For the self-adjusting turbine blade technology, the US Army researchers envision “the shape memory alloy torque tube device housed inside [a] hollow cavity turbine disk [that] upon heating applies torque to articulate the turbine blades”. Pivoting the turbine blades would result in more efficiency within the turbine.

“Changing the blade pitch enables near-zero flow incidence angle into the blade passage thereby eliminating possible flow separations and associated aerodynamic losses,” says the service. “This helps improve the blade aerothermal efficiency, by minimizing boundary layer separation (reduce drag), and in turn achieves higher power.”

Simulating the effectiveness of changing blade pitch has only recently become possible due to increased computing power that has allowed more precise modelling, including of computational fluid dynamics, say the researchers. In particular, they credit the Department of Defense’s (DoD) High Performance Computing Modernization Programme, an effort which funds the development of supercomputers and high-speed networks for use by scientists and engineers.

“One of the key reasons we’re able to make such a rapid progress with this now is because of the recent advances in computing power that were not available 10 or 15 years ago, especially to the DoD community,” says Luis Bravo, aerospace engineer with DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory. “The speed and the power of computers have been increasing exponentially for the last decade. We are at a stage where we can routinely run very large simulations using thousands of computer processors and we can have these very precise simulations in a very short turnaround time.”

The US Army hopes to come up with a physical prototype in the next 12 months to help prove the findings of the computer simulations. “We envision the prototype to consist of a typical turbine stage with multiple stator and rotor blades along with the actuating control mechanism,” the service explains. “It will be experimentally demonstrated in a wind tunnel for system performance validation testing.”

The US Army believes adding the technology to a functional turboshaft engine could be done within three to five years, depending on OEM help and funding resources. Because turboshaft and jet turbine engines today are modular in nature, the researchers hope to be able to insert the self-adjusting turbine blade technology into existing power plants. They mention the GE Aviation T700 turboshaft, which powers the Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopter, as a hypothetical candidate.

HIPE AE 440 (Diesel Powerpack for a Light Helicopter Demonstrator)

The Green Rotorcraft ITD program that supported Airbus Helicopters’ research project is part of the Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative, which is Europe’s most ambitious aeronautical research program ever. Clean Sky’s goal is to develop breakthrough technologies that significantly increase environmental performance of the air transport sector, resulting in quieter and more fuel efficient aircraft and rotorcraft. Environmental targets of Clean Sky are to reduce specific fuel consumption by 30 percent, CO2 emissions by 40 percent and NOx by 53 percent.

HIPE AE 440 high-compression piston engine activity began in 2011, followed by company bench tests and system simulations, including Iron Bird successful tests in February 2014. Ground runs with the H120-equipped helicopter were performed during February and March of this year, leading to the first flight on Friday, November 6th, at Marignane Airport. Development Partners for this HIPE AE 440 high compression engine Project within Clean Sky are TEOS Powertrain Engineering and AUSTRO ENGINE GmbH.

Project Results:

Technological Benefits
Lower fuel consumption (-30% Specific fuel consumption)
Reduction of emissions (-40% CO2)
Reduced direct operating costs by up to 30%
Increased distances can be covered with the same amount of fuel (~doubled)

Technical Data
Uses Kerosene
Common rail high pressure injection (1800 bar)
Turbocharger with air/air intercooler
Core Engine Mass (dry): 197 kg/ Installed Powerpack: 249kg
Power output (@MGB inlet): 330kW up to 2500m and ISA+20°C

Testing

The world is really strange, there are two phenomenons we always avoid at hydrodynamics of ships, flow separation and vortex in large scale occuring ahead of the propeller, this was the past: nowadays vortex generators are installed on ships sterns to condition the flow with smaller vortexes and provocate-inject a rotational energy, and dimple surfaces are being used to separate the flow easier from the body in specific applications.
Vortex generators are seen on behind of rear side of the roof on the cars, also being applied on ships to condition flow at the stern, which is turbulent and with a large boundary layer.

Dimple surfaces, also generates vortex and there has been some effort to adapt these on marine platforms, mainly used on golf balls:
Just by looking at the scale of simulation and detail one may guess this is either LES or DNS based CFD which definitely took days to simulate and another to visualize.

And generating electricity by converting straight-laminar flow into a vortex: Looks reasonable and more efficient to supply small to medium scale electricity demand and can easily power remote areas of impoverished rural areas.
-Doesn't need heavy installment on water ways, attached directly on side in a small area.
-Large impeller, slow rpm thus eco-friendly and doesn't damage life in the stream.
-Simple concrete installation, simple usage.
-Easily maintained, the propeller is much more durable compared to wind-turbines.

It's an older code sir, but it checks out...

This documentary produced by Patrick Air Force Base circa 1990 reviews the history of rocket technology, from Robert Goddard to launches at Cape Canaveral and the potential future of commercial operations. A database printout suggests the date for the documentary is February 5, 1991.

They pulled a 4 minute hover with $60.000.000 investment.
We only need $30.000 to pull 30+ minutes.

Quantum Entanglement Drones

Quantum Entanglement Drones: We are now on the verge of the dawn of a new age. Technological development and scientific studies do not slow down. We have a lot of data to move forward. Drones are one of the leading inventions that are at the forefront of the subject and the technologies that shape our future. Now, drones have begun to be used for the development of quantum technology. One of the drones' new missions was the transmission of a quantum signal in a one kilometer orbit. It also successfully completed this. Two different drones were used in the experiment. Their task would be to produce and distribute photon pairs in structures belonging to quantum communication systems. The trial was successful. Quantum Entanglement Drones were once again tested, and this communication was groundbreaking according to scientists.

Broadcast waves from cell phones, radio stations and Wi-Fi centers are full of information. These waves can transmit quantum encrypted messages to our computers in the future.

The trial was made between two ground stations located 1 km from each other. Two different drones are used for this. With this experiment, it will be possible to establish a quantum network on our residential areas. The fact that drones are mobile will also allow us to reach a very flexible structure.

In an environment where communication is secure on the Internet and cyber attacks are experienced so intensely, data security becomes more and more important every passing minute. Especially the fact that bank employees now work from their homes makes data security incredibly important in this regard. Quantum communication system promises secure communication to the technology world.

What is Quantum Entanglement?

It is planned to use particles that have a quantum-mechanical relationship in the quantum communication system. Thanks to entangled photons, encrypted messages will be able to travel securely from one place to another.

One of the most widely used systems among the communication systems we are in is fiber optic infrastructures. However, in fiber optic cabling systems, most of the photons have scattering problems before they reach the target. In a sense, we have the trouble of encountering weak signals. Thanks to Quantum Entanglement and Drones, the first steps of a completely different era are before us.

A photon can be sent to the users with the structures consisting of quantum pairs, that is, quantum bits. The loss of entanglement of photons can also create a unique security advantage in terms of cybersecurity. In other words, communication will stop from time to time, which will reduce leakage to communication lines.

Just as the Chinese provided quantum communication in 2018, when quantum data is sent via the atmosphere, problems such as scattering will not be too much, data communication will be more effective. This trial in 2018 took place between China and Austria.

The current record in a fiber optic based quantum encryption is also a record of 421 km.

Ref: https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.121.190502

However, the disadvantage is that communication satellites are expensive for now and their adaptation to changing demands also puts the cost elements forward.

Small drones carrying optical equipment can also provide a flexible solution that can connect multiple users in a quantum network.

Scientists also inform that when communication is required, drones will be used depending on time and location and fixed base stations can be avoided. It is also a fact that existing communication systems also harm the ecosystem.
Studies on Quantum Communication systems continue in various parts of the world. We should also say that drones were used in these studies. In early 2020, Chinese scientists produced data using an 8-bladed drone.

One of the infrared photon pairs produced in this experiment was directed to a ground station named Alice and the other to another ground station named Bob.

e7_1.png

The data of the incoming photons were also collected with a 26mm diameter telescope. We of course also state that the telescope is naturally a telescope with a photon detector.

Diffraction is the leading phenomenon that adversely affects data health in optical communication systems. If the aperture of the telescopes that collect them during the propagation of the photons and as a result of their progress is less than the aperture of the transmitted wave, it will reduce the chance of data collection. In order to eliminate this negativity, a gap of 200 meters between two stations was chosen.

The distance between the drones, that is, between Alice and Bob, was a total distance of 1 km, with the drones of 200 meters and the ground stations 400 meters. The main reason for using two different drones was to separate the stations from each other and to make the experiment more unique and to transfer the data to the other telescope by focusing it.

In the experiment, the Alice detector recorded about a quarter of the photons that came to it, while the Bob detector was recording about four percent of the photons sent to it.

The team performed a different version of the Bell's Inequality test by comparing the photon polarizations taken in Alice and Bob.

Let's talk a little bit about the Bell inequality test. It is a well-known physics experiment designed to test the theory of quantum mechanics in relation to Albert Einstein's concept of local realism.

The theorem is usually proven by considering a quantum system made up of two entangled qubits with original tests as was done on photons.

The most common examples relate to systems of particles circulating in spin or polarization. Quantum mechanics allows predictions of correlations that can be observed when the turns or polarizations of these two particles are measured in different directions.

Bell also demonstrated that if a local latent variable theory is applicable, these correlations must also meet certain constraints called Bell inequalities.

According to the results obtained in the experiment, it was confirmed that the photons were entangled. In other words, this experiment excited the whole scientific community in a way.

Now scientists are expanding the scale of the experiment and planning to experiment with multiple drone systems in much larger areas.

Going back to the initial costs of the system, quantum communication systems require special fiber networks or very expensive satellite connections. Considering that drones also add to the cost of these existing systems, it is a fact that there is a long way to go.

Martin Bohmann, a quantum information expert at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, states that one of the advantages of the drone system is that it can be communicated globally, not on the same line with the points to be contacted.

It points to the need to reduce photon transmission losses to make a multi-drone system competitive with other quantum network technologies, but believes such improvements are possible.
