The satellite – set to take off from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 8.26 p.m. Thursday (Friday GMT0126, 4.26 a.m. in Turkey) – will settle into its orbit within four months and start service in the second half of 2021, according to Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry.

Live feed and commentary from Tim Dodd - who does excellent commentaries and may give his opinion on Turkish space projects.

NSF they also do really good commentaries.

I hope there's also a project for a Turkish Space Agency website. I'm sure they can allocate the 10-20k € to get it done finally.

They are waiting for Erdogan to explain his road map. After the road map is announced, the website will be published.

ASELSAT 3U CUBE SATELLITE LAUNCHED INTO SPACE

Aselsan will test the subsystems it has developed with this satellite.

Also, according to rumors, the 2021-2030 space program and the TUA logo will be announced before the end of January.

I know we're still at the early stages of a space program, but made as an idea. SpaceX has been busy buying scrapped oil rigs for cheap during the crisis to use as launch pads in the future.

Has there been any analysis anywhere of possible locations for Turkey future spaceport? No location is generally given where I looked briefly other than such facility is upcoming:

“For this purpose, we are establishing a microsatellite launch facility in our country. We support the satellite development activities of our public institutions, universities and private sector,” the president noted.

If I were Turkey I would choose with future in mind as much as possible (i.e ability to ramp the facility up size to mid launch size at least).

Turkey is constrained in such endeavour by geography somewhat, but here are two sites I think will be good for mid-sized future launch as the launch bearing window is goverened by:

- As close to east as possible (for maximum velocity imparted by earth rotation)
- Population zones (thus open sea needed etc) for 1st (and maybe 2nd) stage debris field.

With this in mind I figure these are two potential sites Turkey can look at (with mid-size in mind):

Purely due south launch can be looked at for 2nd site too, if Turkey wants to do polar inclination only.

Having micro-sat only (thus small rocket only) opens up lot more options of course, depends how Turkey pursues the strategy here.

More on this field's details I posted earlier (2nd part especially):

Long time ago Sinop / up top and Datça / at the peninsula near Marmaris, bottom left were mentioned.

Sinop would not give enough range I think for a mid size rocket debris field (due east launch). Thrace would give most window for it, say if Turkey develops a mid size launcher quickly from the 1st iteration worked on now.

From Sinop second stage falls in the Caspian Sea, from Datça second stage falls in the Indian Ocean. This was 5-6 years ago. I would rather launch from a ship base launcher that can be shipped to anywhere and possibly launch from Somalian shores.

"We plan to launch the TURKSAT 5B satellite into space in the middle of this year," Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu said.
