For foreign jets wouldn't you need OEM approval? That was my basis off saying it would be harder to do.

I think if they were willing to allow you to put your radar into another countries F-16s for example they would rather sell F-16V upgrades and make money.

Remember Israel trying to sell F-16s to Croatia?

It is up to end user agreement, after a certain time has passed the end user can do modifications freely.
For newer systems they are bound to permission of the manufacturer.

There are quite a few numbers in the air. 20 years, 25 years and 30 years.
The truth is , unless you have the actual sale contract for the f16’s in front of you , there is no way of telling what the release of full ownership conditions are.
Block 30 aircrafts are undergoing structural upgrades to extend their life from 8000hours to 12000hours. Tai could produce all parts if needed. But they were purchased from Lockheed Martin in kit form.
These are the aircrafts that have gone over their 30 year time period in our airforce. So we really don’t know what the conditions are.
For a fact, US will never ever allow you to sell the aircrafts to third parties without their explicit consent. To change or add to the planes is another story. The time limit may come into play here.
We are using our own ammunition on these planes , because we have limited access to source codes and/or we are introducing our KGK as JSOW , our HGK as JDAM and now our Bozdogan as aim9x so that the aircraft recognises our home made bombs.
But Mr Ismail Demir in an interview said that the Ozgur project was going forward “no matter what” to make these aircrafts our own.
At the end of the day that is what counts.
The day our home grown Aesa radar is on board I will believe that statement.

Regular utility patent term is 20 years but a seller and buyer can make deals extending beyond this term. 30 or more years is possible. But yes a patent gives monopoly rights for 20 years valid in the country it was granted for. If there are patents granted by Turkey to LM you can search them in our Türkpatent's database, on its website. There are patents granted by Turkey to Agusta Westland for example about helicopter landing gears.

Selling to third parties and making modifications on your own fighters are two different things. Özgür Mod project aims to modernize Turkish F-16 fleet selling it is a secondary objective. There is already one prototype F-16 that flies with a national mission computer. Block 30s will go under Özgür upgrade program after structural modernization(5 fighters have been delivered so far) is done. By the end of this year, Akıncı AESA radar will be integrated into Akıncı UAV which is the first step of the airborne AESA radar projects. Next year Aselsan AESA radar will be integrated into the first Özgür prototype. Probably by the end of 2022 or early 2023 Turkish block 30s will start receiving Özgür modernization after the Aselsan AESA radar integration. First Block 30s will go under mod after that block-40s will follow, and then block-50s latest block 52+ won't be upgraded.

It is rumored that Aselsan AESA has more than 2x range compared to APG-68v9 and includes advanced electronic warfare capabilities. F-16 AESA will be the basis for the more advanced BURFIS integrated RF system of the TFX.

But the Harpy is only ground launched weapon unlike the rest.
Furthermore SOMs are upside down in figures unlike the rest.
The man/woman should have sufficient knowledge before creating such things.

Patents are a legal arrangement which give you the right to sell a product to third parties in a specific market.
It has noting to do with modifying your own purchased products. You can even produce patented products for your own use as long as you don't infringe on copyrights by placing trademarks on the part or use their software or some other license specific limitations.

If you wanted, you can buy a product and modify it on the first day if it fits your needs better.
This is common in automotive industry where people simply upgrade their cars with after market products.
The worst thing that can legally happen is that the seller refuse to service your product on the basis of your modifications.

For complex products, people tend to allow the seller to do the service until the end-of-life is reached since the seller knows his products best, i.e he has the blueprints, software and training. That service period is up to the seller and buyer to define in an agreement which define how long spare parts are available for that particular product. The agreement can also include other paragraphs such as giving exclusive right for service (or modification) for a certain time.

After such end-of-life time, the buyer has two options if he intend to use the product. He either upgrades the product to a newer version like F16 block 52 or performs the service him self or via third parties. If he decides to do the service him self then he must change a lot of parts since he most likely do not have access to the old software. When you are changing the software, you are also changing computers and all the interface since 30 year old computers are useless.

I tried to calculate too, my estimates are:

20-25 km for missile lock
10-15 km for launch
Slightly shorter flight distance due to target incoming. I used a 5 km uncertainty because I was lazy to use the real speed of sound, also did not use MS paint with precision.

Based on F-16 speed guess* (since no afterburner, and this could be their normal speed) of 0.8 to 1 Mach, FL200 to 300. (Reduces to 0.8 times those values for 0.8 mach @ FL300)

Şimşek target drone is flying 1000-2000ft below F-16, if not the same level, observing the HUD. Missile speed could be 2.4 to 3 Mach if F-16 is 0.8 to 1.0 Mach.

The distances between points are not equal, that’s why I did not guess using them.

The complete circle is shooting range, almost equal to LAU to other LAU, the outer one is locking range. Could be only for test purposes.
Note the circle stops moving after launch, so its center is where computer thinks missile is launched. View attachment 18568
Revisiting this, if the launch was at 20km.

Development of Akkor active protection system for armoured vehicles is coming to an end. System will be ready within 2021.
