Post anything related to Turkish internal politics here. Internal policies, political parties, societal issues, etc.

Will 2023 be the year the Erdogan finally falls? The country is probably at its most divided right now after the Agia Sophia decision. Even regular CHP/IYI supporters seem to support this decision even though one of the most amazing mosques sits 100 metres away to the Agia Sophia (Blue Mosque). No shortage of mosques to go around, this decision was only to strengthen his own support and look like a big dog from the west and attract the support of nearby Islamic countries.

Will the other sides strengthen enough and will Erdogan lose enough votes to the AKP offshoots?

Will Ekrem Imamoglu run for presidency?

If any of you are AKP supporters, do you support Erdogan more these days compared to 10/15 years ago, or has it been enough?

While I am of certain opinions, please keep this discussion civil, on certain points I am genuinely curious.

If this thread is in the wrong section, please move it.

The problem in turkish politics is and has always been people not being able to praise and criticize the governments. IMO this trait has become worse during AKP time.

But this trait can only be cured through ensuring people get proper unbiased news. The mainstream media isn't unbiased unfortunately.

People are resorting to Social Media for their news, and now even that's at risk.

I'm pretty sure Ince and Aksener stated that they would kick all refugees out.

I am watching this. Could this be the reason for why TBMM is on 2 months vacation. As if no politics are being made.

It's in turkish, but I really like this guy and how he views the current foreign political climate.

I really recommend watching him because it really helps to lighten the tension. It doesn't mean we should become lax, no we have to be sharp and react in timely manner and always keep an eye on our surroundings.

I am always in favor of a strong Türkiye which can realize our full potential and defend our interests as well as our friends'.
I stand with the Erdoğan government which is the only government that can maximize Turkey's interests.

I stand by TC, and all national interests, transparency and accountability.

These can only exist when you have free unbiased press and right to assembly and a strong Bar.

There are nice words that can be favored by people but the notions behind those words can be manipulated and used by ill intended outsiders towards weakening the nation's interests. Good thing the nation can tell what is good and what is bad for the national interest when the going gets tough. This happened before when a coalition government prospect loomed on the horizon after which a new election resulted in a stronger single party government.

Transparency shouldn't mean spilling national intelligence secrets for all eyes to see.
Unbiased press happens when you stop foreign capital from owning national media. Social media included.
Justice is justice when you uphold it.

Indeed, I agree, even give death sentence if necessary. But in tenders and all internal economic dealings, nothing but 100% transparency and accountability is acceptable. This of course doesn't include our spendings for TSK.

As a TC citizen I demand to know how CHP can take over the rudder of Istanbul and put the numbers together and say they're short a few billion dollars in budget when AKP seems to have been able to handle things.

I demand to know who doesn't have budget discipline and has been overspending and why ?

And on and on this goes. If politicians feel they're not accountable because 50,1% has voted for them, then that is a detriment to us all. Not acceptable at all.

Government spendings must be subject to public scrutiny. I assume you've seen the articles in DS about saving 15-20% on construction materials if we make them in Turkey... I am quite appalled that this was not the case especially considering Turkish entrepreneurs are among top 5 in the world for at least 15 years...

I don't know what it is.

Turkish constructors have been second after China in the global market for many years.

I should say that not every situation that will arise is foreseeable and there has to be some flexibility to enable projects to move forward.

People don't want to be presented with excuses, they want to see the results and achievements. You can get things done by pushing costactors as well as pulling them. Minor differences between plans and realizations are always acceptable.

DS = Daily Sabah (Pro AKP newspaper)

Yes, critical projects can be pushed through without proper tender process. There is room for this in the law. But the moment you use that particular piece of the law to make a majority of construction projects, which btw goes to pro AKP favourite friends entrepreneur firms.

Then that is a blatant abuse of law.

During crises trust in the government is important.......

I don't remember Yildiz Holding moving everything abroad before...

I don't know what percentage of construction projects goes to pro Akparti businessmen but it is understandable that they feel that they will be treated reasonably when they get the tender and that's why feel attracted to participate. The fact that many projects go to that way does not automatically mean they are being favored. If there is anything unlawful it should be brought up with evidence both to court and to the GNA.

Also from the Altay tender we have seen that opposition side only want money with a €17mn price tag per piece when the pros act with national interest as well in mind asking €7,5mn only and giving a priceless tank engine too in the process. Which is a no-brainer.

Erdoğan always asks for a discount and this makes projects less attractive for those who does not wish to be supporting the government doing the work economically. Tell me if I am wrong.

In the latter case delivery of Altay has been delayed for years, BMC has been dragging feet finally that SSB had to lease Tank Palet at their service, they neither started construction of the Factory they promised, neither started upgrades at Tank Palet, again as they promised. They finally started not actual serial production, of some Tanks for sole reasons of receiving payments.
Development of the motor project is funded by state, individually, development cost is not within the package of the unit price, the serial-production price of the engine is.
That price was given for serial production, BMC will get higher payment per unit in first batches until its finally optimized for the serial production. Still, it is doubted how SSB would react if BMC ends up telling " here is my best i can not go lover than 15 million per unit", BMC wouldn't have been forced to produce rest for 7.5 m, that doesn't make sense economically, neither they are financially strong to pay penalties in such case.
Moreover, BMC was granted with super duper investments, and possible reductions in tax payments unlike FNSS or Otokar.

The same has happened at LHD project, RMK ( Koc ) has bidded the lowest, SEDEF has bidded the highest (almost 1.7 times), guess who has won?
Sometimes the unit cost does not matter, you go for the company which technically is able to build /produce something, which ensures you on that.

To avoid Kayyum, yes. I still don't understand how Ülker can stick around with their low quality products. They have purchased Godiva, United Biscuits, yet their products in Turkey sucks.

FNSS or Otokar?

I can not imagine either Otokar or FNSS wishing to give Turkey military might. Add Vestel to that. LOL
