Israeli media: some military officials want Gaza operation halted
According to the Israeli Walla News website, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz apparently agreed to continue the operation against Gaza, while some senior officials in the defense establishment and military said behind closed doors that "what is right now is to end the operation and work for a ceasefire."
The unnamed military officials say Israel is paying the price for continuing the operation and could risk a ground operation that no one wants to enter.
Some defense units in Israel have expressed concern that Hamas will respond unexpectedly to the ground maneuver, while military officials believe that the effectiveness of Israel's attacks (in Gaza) has decreased.
Walla News also reported that Hamas entered the conflict with about 14 thousand rockets, which allowed them to fire rockets for about 60 days.
"Mohammed ed-Dayf, the commander of Hamas' military wing, managed to come up with a new equation against Israel after he decided to launch rockets into every area within reach across the country, " the news said, adding that Israel was concerned about losing legitimacy in the future because it attacked the Gaza Strip."they were used.
"Because of U.S. pressure, Israel renegotiates Gaza ceasefire"
The Times of Israel reported that the Washington administration, especially US President Joe Biden, had expressed concern to Israel about civilian casualties in attacks on Gaza.
The report said U.S. officials had called on Israel to end attacks on Gaza.
Speaking to Walla news before today's security cabinet meeting, where attacks on Gaza will be discussed, an unnamed senior Israeli official said that due to international pressure and calls from the United States, the Tel Aviv administration will begin the process of reaching a ceasefire.
He said Egypt would play an intermediate role between Israel and Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza in order to reach a decommissioning.
Biden had spoken by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu twice since May 10, one of them yesterday.
Netanyahu said yesterday that attacks on Gaza would continue.
Israel's attacks on Gaza have killed 174 Palestinians, 47 of them children and 29 of them women.
