Says in the article that Egypt is preparing to expand cooperation level with SK.

@Philip the Arab do you think that Egypt is ready for cooperation of such level ?

I imagine that the money will be provided by UAE, or KSA. But when Egypt is investing so much on expensive Rafale I'm not sure it makes sense to jump on the KFX. I was under the impression that buying jets and focusing on R&D ground vehicle, missile etc. was what Egypt was going for.

Egypt is gearing up for intervention against Ethiopia because of the Millenium Dam. I don't know how this will go. I think Egypt is being double played and jebaited. Israel and UAE are also planning to open a new Suez channel between Eilat and Ashdod to carry gulf oil and gas and Asian goods to the Mediterranean via their channel. Israel might help Ethiopia (there are Jewish communities there).

I didn’t know Rafale didn’t have US parts. So it’s pure French with some EU parts ? But still it’s quite a lot for a jet. Who in Africa can match Egypts armed forces ? I doubt Ethiopia would be able to muster much against even Russian jets. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

Rafale has a few minor American parts although I can't seem to find the article that confirms this but some minor ones, most are sourced from inside France itself.


Egypt may have regional plans outside of Africa in the future which is why it thinks it needs a larger air force.

I think it is better to use the right keyword as "decent, high quality and well trained"
Because i am sure an airforce with 50 identical jets, well trained pilots and decent hardware can beat a diversified airforce with 400 (100 * 4 different origins) under-trained and low gear items, and scattered units-flotillas that can not be integrated, both in short term and also in longer term due to the logistic handling.

Egypt will have problems to maintain ther fighter jets. Thats the fact and never be able to use it in full potential. The Egyptian doctrine sucks with diversion fighters.

Egypt is doing the right thing with the Rafale purchase. American fighters come with huge strings attached. Russian fighters are unreliable. Fighters like Gripen and K-FX have major American subsystems and comes with the same problem of buying American hardware. Rafale is ITAR free and seems like coming with a lot fewer strings attached so politically looks to be the best option.
