Aside from the big tickets (ie helo, MBT, SAM, etc) the core of AD reform/modernization projects are mostly low profile yet very strategic:
- Greater regu fire power (Carl Gustav licensing?).
- 4 billion small munition (joint venture Pindad x Qatar).
- New rifle (caracal? Joint venture Pindad x UAE).
- Command and Control system (Syctalys >> possibility for military satellte?)
- Rocket (more MLRS)
- SRBM (short range balistic missile, under 300 km) possibly from Roketsan?

I personally more fascinated with aforementioned AD procurement than AL/AU, since it will change the quality and capability of the big chunk of our personnels (army)

so SS2 NG will be replace with rifle from caracal?

Caracal only for special force
It won’t be economically viable if only adopted by spec ops. Caracal need to be widely adopted by reguler unit to make the invesment worth. Capex for Pindad will include new machinery to make ‘barrel’ / laras domestically. It won’t be cheap.

news that for specs op only, rumor that is Indonesia SF gonna standardize on CAR 816.
Invest so big just to be used by spec op?
At least standardized for Kostrad and marine too.
Or better yet make it standard issue.

Re: Caracal vs SS-2 rifles.

Been wondering about this for some time, especially after the news regarding Pindad introducing Caracal rifles appeared some months ago:

What do CAR rifle have that SS-2 don't? In other words, I got this impression that Pindad's SS-2 is not nearly good enough for SF purposes. But since the SS-2 have already been used in large number for our regular troops (while some still use the old SS-1), is this mean that the SS series are only fit for mass production?

Sorry for this 'newbie-ish' question, though. It's just I can't help but wonder much like what I asked in another thread. But if the answer is the same like what @Madokafc answered, then I rest my case:

Just like i had said before, there is no eternal decision, only eternal interest and change of decision itself. Hopefully the contract for previous OPV resulted in satisfied results, in which can change their mindset.

as of now, the news that it only for spec ops (possibly other special recon unit who not part of SF, i.e. taifib) which in it self are quite large.

CAR 816 it self are not cheap. my opinion; better spend money on body armor, helmet, optics or personal radio than buying a new gun, not to mention some unit until now still use SS-1.

My opinion, modularity. AR based rifles are kind of like an open architecture that you can have a lot of choices on what you want with your rifle. Their 3rd party parts makers are also already well established.

If want more modularity, then choice MCX. That gun doesn't even need buffer tube which means you don't even need stock, which also means give AR modularity (like) to the next level. Personally, I think MCX as the most modular out there.

Tactical Data Link system from LEN had been certified

Once we have, let's say, exercise with US or Australia, BOOM, we can't communicate our data link with them and swinging radio for all things again, back to the WW2 Era. Worst case scenario, friendly fire wkwk.

At least we can share information and logistics with our like minded neighbors by making some kind of written standard that we have to have and/or use this-that, kind of like all NATO countries have to used Link 16, NATO rounds blabla.... standardizing things.

But the problem is, this kind of step will give our politicians friends a blowback, in the other words, there is too much political risk wkwk.

Politicians win their election because of the people, so they will say what the people wanna hear. Looking at our people right now, our population (the simple people part of population) are easily fooled by chauvinistic statements, so there is no way to be that close on all matters with the so called "west" especially. But, weirdly, they are more open with the Russia wkwk, clever Russia.

I think they "hate" PRC more than they love Russia.

If the reason is as above, what makes it different and more economical than Komodo Armament products?

If this world gone mad and split into two, Bear will definitely join dragon.
Yup.. but i appreciate their pre-conditioning (penggalangan).

I don't know, maybe because win-win deals that they made?, We used and produce(?) CAR 816, they produced SM3. Both creating jobs, both make money, all happy.

Isn't that CAR 816 just for our spec ops?
