It has been a very informative series for me thus far, good to watch to get some interesting details on Turkey's history (especially for the non-Turk).

Would appreciate to hear any comments/discussion/debate on stuff he has presented here if anyone is interested in watching it or has watched it already etc. It might take while to watch it all though if you haven't....but I found it quite well done overall.

Kraut’s Turkey series were pretty good (still have some seen part 3 though), very informative and non- biased which is very rare in general. I am a fan of his documentaries on all other countries too.

Combined with EpicHistoryTV, these 3 are probably the top 3.

The Atatürk part was amazing. He got 99 percent right. But he sounded like Ataturk was Ateist or Deist but he was not. Rest are true though.

He could be a bektashi, and bektashi or alawita often referred as deists /atheists (kafir) by conservatives and extremists.

Yes I mentioned them in my previous post just now.

They have very good attention to detail in very many ways.

In one of the Napoleon videos where he thrust deep into (today's) Germany, they even picked Egmont overture as the soundtrack.

Beethoven specifically composed that piece of music in his livid anger/distaste at Napoleon turning into a tyrant as he saw it (sowing much death and destruction everywhere he went)...in many ways you can hear it in the music. I made note of it and commented on their page heh, they actually were quite happy I noticed.

It (Egmont by Beethoven) stood in contrast to earlier where he saw Napoleon as great liberator and enlightened leader (and even dedicated his 3rd "Heroic" symphony to him). I remember it timed very appropriately with the whole Napoleon series they did.

This shows a very astute deep knowledge of the whole context by EpicHistoryTV.

History and Culture are subjects that i have loved since childhood. I started studying the political sphere when i was in my teens and i started studying law about 4 years ago. So history and culture as my old love and i know about those channels as well as others. You normally see me talking about law because law is a topic that is rarely discussed yet holds the most significance in terms of importance. History, politics and military are topics that i give as much time to study as possible. So love the thread

But to be honest it is pretty good. I know quite a few ppl who'll just reject the content and these womens perspective and claim their own perspective is right. (western women's feminism is the only right one they'd say).

Yes there is always balance on what must simply be done top down enlightenment wise versus what can be done bottom up "organically" from society.

I mean the very idea of democratic republic or a constitutional govt broadly (and govt more broadly) is recognition that there are things (of high importance) that simply are done badly by the latter approach (the extreme conclusion of its argument being some kind of anarchy).

I have engaged in several debates on this very issue with whole political spectrum of people. Once you open the genie of there being a role and need for government, the argument necessarily becomes one of extent.

If people are interested in Turkic history especially Islamic Turco history.

I suggest reading Mahmud Al Kashgaris works. The man was a giant and a gem for the Turkic world. As a Muslim Turk he may have been bias against Tengrists and Shamanists due to religion but he admired the way of life of nomads and suggested nomadic life is superior over urban life. Kashgari even said urban life was slavery while the Nomadic Turk was a free man.

His works form an important part of Turkology.
