It all depends if US can form a coalition to defend Taiwan, combined coalition of NATO + Australia, South Korea and Japan, can definitely defend Taiwan and destroy most of Chinese fleet. However, if US has to defend Taiwan by itself then US might not have enough resources to defend Taiwan...
