AS you know I rarely bother with the figures or do number crunching. But trust me Istanbul felt like a global city in cusp of taking on London, Paris and New York. Istanbul airport was just gigantic. Clearly given it's location, literate population, vibrant society, stable government and...

Your economy is doing well, no other Muslim country comes close. You have all the basics sorted out and now are on a platform where you can head to be highly developed first country. I was in Istanbul recently. I saw the energy and vibrancy. And i don't kiss no arse. I say as I see and think...

Whoever he is, he needs medical attention. First I found him amusing but then it became annoying. Then I just consigned him to a be "nutty Turk". If he is as you say then he must be a patient at a mental faciility who has access to internet.

Having just come back from a 5 week tour of Pakistan I tell you it is tragedy. This is a country with incredible potential. A history glorious that would place it with all the ancient greats like Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, China. A land littered with archeaological wonders of the past. A land...

You know Allama Iqbal initially was sceptical about the Turkish Republic and the reforms launched by Kemal Ataturk but very soon seemed to take positive outlook on this 'experiment'. He says in his "Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam" [I would highly recommend you read it] that the...

BAJWA FAMILY BUSINESS EMPIRE GREW IN FOUR COUNTRIES IN SYNC WITH ASIM BAJWA’S RISE IN MILITARY

I won't hide that I am pro army as a institution. Pakistan would have ceased to exist as we know it by 1950 had it not a large military inheritated from the British era. Pakistan is rather reminiscent of the Prussian military state. Not quite the same because of diferant historic times and...

Historical Book Excerpt; Governance of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan

I give you a perfect example of the victims of this "toxic potion". On my recent visit to Pakistan I stayed with a cousin in Pakistan who is a civil engineer in the Public Works Department. He had built a small bungalow near where he worked for his part time use. In the bungalow he had two...

Historical Book Excerpt; Governance of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan

While this is not the thread for it but in South Asia "Muslim mindset" is actually the cowardly strain left over from the defeat by British imperialists fused with mumbo jumbo of religion. A perfect toxic potion that works wonders on the ignorant masses to keep them sedated in ignorance. It's...

I disagree with the premise that modernity is bad. Yes it can be bad but like anything it does not need to be bad. This is a very Luddite way of thinking. It assumes that the past was pristine which is false. The modern world for all it's ill is still far better then it was century ago. The...

The Confusion over where Europe and Asia meet and where Europe ends

I swear to you if I got into PM Imran Khan's position you would see Attila the Hun meets Stalin meets Adolf Hitler. Every mullah, every follower of religious parties woiuld be wiped out. Spot of eugenics would be rolled out. Anybody below par IQ has no right to consume oxygen. I would bring in...

These are purely politcal constructs and thus subject to change over time. Did you know Israel and Australia figure in Eurovision contest. The former plays in UEFA.

The Confusion over where Europe and Asia meet and where Europe ends

Note Christiandom included most of Anatolia, Levant [Syria/Palestine], Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and Marocco. But excluded most of Germany, Poland, Russia and Scandanavia.

The Confusion over where Europe and Asia meet and where Europe ends

Europe is just a peninsula of Asia. Purely from POV of geography there is no division. All we have is a seamless Eurasian continent. However as a religo-cultural construct it began as "Christiandom" but over time morphed into the secular 'Europe' nomenclature. Traditional Europe did NOT Include...

The problem is this mundane outlook clashes with two groups in the Pakistani context. The two M's. Mullahs and Muhajirs. Both require Pakistan to be a ideological state or else their very basis is undermined. I will explore this complex in a thread to fully develop this line of thinking.
