F35 was going to replace ageing F4-2000 jets. As well as being a deep strike aircraft, F35-A is also a stealthy flying computer. But if it were to replace F4-2000 jets, then we were thinking of using these in “beast mode”. Their technological advantage was a bonus, that came with the plane. So...

From @Hexciter ‘s post I understand that all the A+ series production has been completed and stopped. New ones, where A+ or O+ are needed, will all be O+ from now on. If, so far, they haven’t delivered 15 systems then they will be delivered as O+ in due course. So the question stands : How many...

Drag coefficient values through water would be identical to air. That is physics. Aerodynamics and fluidics laws govern these. When fully submerged a submarine goes faster. Because it’s aerodynamic shape allows this to happen and there are no external factors like waves etc. But when it is at...

Banshee seems to be slower than Simsek target plane. (Half the speed of Simsek) . Which supersonic target is tested?

Can you elaborate please? Are you suggesting that drag coefficient changes with speed?

You are correct. It is one or other. But Chinese are using dual seekers. Also, apparently, US is in the process of developing dual seekers for their hypersonic missiles. Israel’s Stunner SAM (supposedly a 7.5mach speed missile) uses both imaging and Radio Frequency seekers.

Isn’t that why the use detachable cone heads?

Mica NG missile uses IR and RF combined seeker head? Chinese are doing it with their a2a missiles?

I am sorry but, even a high-school student knows that aerodynamic structure and drag coefficient of a circular head is much lower than a conical one. Below shape is the most aerodynamic shape there is. That is why all air and sea vehicles are optimised to approximate this shape. The reason in...

So from what you are saying can I deduce that the physically, the missile can reach longer ranges but due to it’s seeker head’s inadequacies, as it can’t see efficiently further than 25 km, and hence it has a shorter range? For IR this is the case. Isn’t that it is why Imaging Infra Red seekers...

If RF missile has wider body, than it is less aerodynamic than IIR missile. That should make it’s range shorter. Again; Why RF has more range than IIR? Please read my previous post. If IIR head is globular (circular) than it should be more aerodynamic. And should have a longer range than a...

According to @TheInsider RF has a range of 35-40km!! Do we have a definitive source for the range figure for the RF missile? Also why RF has a longer range than IIR? Does the nose structure of a missile make such a big difference? If it does can someone explain how? Since a circular ball head...

OK fair enough. But it still doesn’t explain why it has less range than the missile system it is replacing.

If I am not mistaken, HisarO+ will replace Hawk missile systems we currently use. Ismail Demir definitely said the A and O were being replaced by A+ and O+. I personally watched the interview he gave on screen. Hawk system has an operational range of 45-50 km with a ceiling of 20000m. The...

Our new frigates and ships are probably not going to have RAM or ESSM. The new MDAS will most likely have quad packed Hisar RF for AD purposes. If they can produce a 10km range Sungur, then a RAM replacement may be in the running. You can’t attack a target at 40-50 km with a RAM replacement or...

How about low flying supersonic missiles? You can’t expect to hit sea skimming missile that comes in to your radar at 30km and has to be engaged at closer than 10km, with Siper! Also if a supersonic plane is at 30-40km distance, you wouldn’t send a 150km range missile to intercept it. Also my...

Hisar A+ & Hisar O+ class missiles are 4+ Mach speed missiles. So they should, in theory, be able to stop supersonic missiles as well as supersonic planes. The test pictures we see are with ”Simsek” . It is a subsonic turbojet propelled UAV/plane. Doesn’t any body here think that it should also...

RAM (Rolling Airframe Missiles) rotate as they fly towards their target because the missile must roll during flight because the RF tracking system uses a two-antenna interferometer that can measure phase interference of the electromagnetic wave in one plane only. So it is the deficiency of the...

If S400 radar is on. I don’t see any reason why Akbaba would not target it. If it is as good as the latest HARM, then it would engage it, even after S400 has shut off it’s radar. At a speed of over Mach 2, thanks to it’s dual-thrust rocket engine that sustains the speed, the S400 protection...
