Ukraine is said to be eyeing purchasing Turkey’s Korkut Air Defense System, which is set to be showcased at the Arms and Security 2021 exhibition to be held in Kiev next week, according to reports circulating in Ukrainian media.

Developed within the scope of the project carried out by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the sale of the KORKUT Low Altitude Air Defense Weapon System, which was developed by ASELSAN completely using national resources, to Ukraine will be on the agenda.

According to a report published on the Ukraine-centric news website Defense Express, which coordinates with more than 100 companies and organizations, suggested that Ukraine may purchase KORKUT from Turkey.

According to the same report, ASELSAN is slated to showcase this system to the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the 17th installment of the "Arms and Security 2021" exhibition to be held in Kiev between June 15-18.

According to reports, a purchase order from Kiev is expected following the exhibition.

The report by Defense Express went on to outline the features of the Korkut air defense system, pointing out that if Ukraine does purchase Korkut, it will be able to produce these systems using domestic means.

Turkey had sold a total of six Bayraktar TB2 drones and three ground controls stations to Ukraine in 2019, and the two allies signed a deal in December last year allowing Ukraine to make its own copies of the TB2.

Turkey’s combat drones had reportedly destroyed the Russian-made Pantsir missile systems in Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, as Ankara’s deployment of UAVs was credited for the victories clenched by Turkey’s allies from Asia to Africa.

ASELSAN’s Self Propelled Air Defense Gun System (KORKUT) is newly designed and developed for effective ground based air defense against modern air threats. The system consists of a platoon of three 35 mm Gun Systems and one Command Post that can operate full autonomously.

As an effective, reliable and maintainable Air Defense Solution from ASELSAN, KORKUT Platoon successfully realizes all the functions of detection, tracking, recognition, identification and destruction of the target.
