If the Russian-Algerian interaction in the military-technical partnership has indeed remained at the highest strategic level, it is not for fault that many Western countries, including France, have tried to change the situation. Or the United States, having threatened many countries with economic sanctions for arms contracts with Russia (the famous CAATSA law which aims "to counter the enemies of the United States through sanctions"). The USA which has also failed to be able to disrupt in any way the situation in the strategic partnership between Algeria and Russia in the military-technical sphere.
In other words - Elyos-style lobbying campaigns or Washington-style threats and intimidation - have so far not been convincing elements in Algeria's strategic choices. At the same time confirming a fully independent and sovereign approach.
If many forces hostile to Algiers criticize this interaction with Russia, it does not displease them that it is precisely thanks to this undeniable defensive capacity that Algeria can be ready for any attempt at destabilization or external aggression. , like what happened in Libya. Such a scenario is inconceivable today on Algerian soil.
The power and defensive capacity of the Algerian army is all the more important since, following NATO's intervention against the Libyan Jamahiriya of Muammar Gaddafi, chaos and the terrorist threat have spread to many places in the country. region, especially in the Sahel. A Sahel in the throes of instability and in which the military presence of French and US troops has not improved the situation. On the contrary, many observers speak of an obvious deterioration, which is all the more likely to worsen.
Hence the importance of a strong, efficient regional army that can deal with security challenges, while maintaining a constant policy, including in the choice of its historical-strategic partners. Algeria is among the Top 3 of Russia's main partners in the military-technical field at the global level, and represents for Moscow its second economic and commercial partner at the African continental level. The country is also one of China's main partners in Africa. This consistency in strategic choices is also a weapon that should not be overlooked.
