Fair question, and Believe me, this is the same question asked by all Algerians interested in military matters...When will the Algerian Special Forces change their AKs?...

Perhaps the reason AKs have remained in service until now is due to the fact that they are locally produced, and the Algerian army does not intend to introduce individual weapons that are not manufactured locally ...
Therefore, we note that the Algerian army has recently modernized its individual weapons production lines and obtained new licenses and new weapons designs from China such as the CS/LS7 and more as we previously explained in this topic.

I know Algerian SOF uses some pretty advanced stuff, but why are they still using AKs? With this particular configuration the weight gets up by a lot with all of these picatinny. Beefy stock has its plus so I understand, but they sure have to look into some western platform. I am sure budget would not be a problem for them.

As we spoke previously, my friend, yesterday the first sniper rifle manufactured in Algeria by ECMK company , was displayed during the Defense Industries Exhibition , We hope that in the next stage they will release new products for individual weapons , In order to replace the older AKs .

The Algerian President visited the Turkish pavilion at the Algiers International Fair, where he learned about Turkish industries in the field of ships and aircraft...Representatives of the Turkish companies TAI, ASELSAN and HAVELSAN who participated in the exhibition stated that they have important projects in Algeria.
The representative of the Turkish company Tai stated that they hope to produce the ANKA drone in Algeria after their success in exporting it to the Algerian Air Force.

Bit off-topic but I sure do hope cooperation on defense industry is only the start of much closer relationship between Turkey and Algeria. I have discovered some stuff dating back to 1800s about invasion of France and treatment of local populace, like forcibly divorcing Turkish and Algerian women from their husbands and all manner of atrocities etc. Including my ancestors. Turkey's position on Algeria in 50s was regrettable ( but honestly there are a lot of regrettable things about that era). Hope the trend of rapprochment continues and leads to a good model for the region. The two nations share common values.
