So they are going to go with 'existing' engine and not gonna wait for indigenous engine to be developed and ready. Wise move I say. Some lessons from Tejas. Also Uttam will be mature by then so there is no issue on that front.

It is ambitious, but India has near and far field infra to study and test the RCS signatures.

It is then a matter of materials application research and development. Lot of these composites have already been started and deployed with the Tejas program.

All that remains is as said the engine and they have followed modular approach here in interest of time (and the engines huge RnD needs)...which should have been done w.r.t Tejas from the start.

Let us see how it goes.

I wonder if it should have been quicker, the Koreans with some American help were able to build a scaled jet that will not be fully stealthy in the beginning but by the second or third block will have IWB, and RCS nearing American aircraft. It will have its first flying prototype within two or three years.

Well Korean MIC + defence institutions+bureaucracy and general intensity of industrial fortitude+capacity in this realm is on different level to India.

Check out their German help in subs and the transition in that domain to what they have now and will have soon.

Both India and SK started with same HDW 209 class around same time period. The ToT India went for turned into pretty much damp squib in the end and future acquistion went all over the place as result.

Compare to Korean progression into SS-2 and now especially SS-3 (Where whole VLS mid section with SLBM capability has been fitted).

Indian MIC lost a good chunk of 20 years in post cold war...operating in the old system with same archaic kind of thinking...amends and catch up in the overall system is only starting now....and we have to wait for results given the size of some of programs and needs.

Though it must be said Korea can do this, but not India. No country will help India this way for crucial stealth research...especially from first principles and fundamental research side. India has to go this way on its own, simply there is no other option.

The director/project manager told that he doesnt know about the FGFA program including about the aircraft (SU 57), so it seems when it was still a collaboration project, India just provide money and is not included in the development process. Ideally people who were contributing in FGFA program are also hired for AMCA program so they can shorten the learning curve needed when developing AMCA.

Highly unlikely that Pratt&Whitney will offer IPR or even ToT,joint development was already laid by indian side but was cancelled.

Doesn't matter as long as we hold the IP and we're able to develop variants in the long run by ourselves. I believe there's an offset clause in the Rafale deal for Safran to collaborate with GTRE in reviving the Kaveri-GTX to help achieve the required thrust...I don't think there's any progress in that regard

Maybe with active support from DRDO and research orgs/IITs/IISc

It is quite possible with collaboration and enough man hours to run the iteration research.

You won't get up to date latest gen engine, but you will get a pretty good start to take forward.

They would also have to scout and acquire smaller companies in west in the niche or close to it I would say.

Also its not just metallurgy, huge part is also ceramics, bonding, applications, control systems etc.

But if they learn from experiences in Brahmos etc how to delegate and indigenise and provide more impetus in specific organised way...there is no reason they cannot achieve it.

But Govt must move away from being too stuck in PSU mindframe.
