ANKA May Enter Malaysian Inventory
Malaysia's Ministry of Defence has opened an international tender for the purchase of three drones, particularly Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) platforms.
Malaysia's Ministry of Defence has opened an international tender for the purchase of three drones, particularly Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) platforms.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is expected to be the possible operator for the drone, but the Malaysian Armed Forces have not specified which force will use the platform.
Malaysia is interested in at least four models, including General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper, CAIC Wing Loong, Leonardo's Falco and ANKA from Turkish Aerospace Industries (Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii A.Ş. /TUSAŞ).
The drone tender, which will be funded under the country's 2021-2025 budget, will end on November 26, 2020.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed visited TUSAŞ in July 2019 and watched the flight show of Atak, Hürkuş and ANKA. TUSAŞ, which set the Asian market at its target, highlighted ANKA at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition in Malaysia in 2018.
Developed for reconnaissance, surveillance, fixed/mobile target detection, identification and tracking, ANKA can be used operationally in real-time image intelligence missions.
