The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing flight tests for the Guided Pinaka Weapon System, fulfilling the Provisional Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) validation trials.

These trials were conducted in three phases across multiple field firing ranges to test the system’s capabilities rigorously. “In these trials, DRDO thoroughly evaluated key PSQR parameters such as range, accuracy, consistency, and rate of fire, with a particular focus on the system’s capability to engage multiple targets in salvo mode,” stated the Ministry of Defence.

Each test phase included an extensive assessment of twelve rockets from each production agency, launched from two upgraded, in-service Pinaka launchers. The trials demonstrated operational consistency and targeting accuracy, showcasing the upgraded launchers’ enhanced performance.

This successful validation announces the Guided Pinaka Weapon Systems readiness for deployment, bolstering India’s artillery strength. The system exemplifies DRDO’s commitment to advancing Indigenous defence technology, with an eye on increasing India’s long-range artillery capabilities.

The order for 100 K-9 self-propelled howitzers to be made by Larsen and Toubro at Hazira in Gujarat would be a repeat order as already 100 of them have been inducted into the Army.

L & T has increased the indigenous content in the howitzers.

~950 mil USD for 100.

7000 crore INR ~ 820 million USD (about 2.7 mil USD per gun + towing vehicle)

60% of the contract, which involves 307 howitzers and 327 towing vehicles, will go to Bharat Forge, which emerged as lowest bidder, and 40% to Tata Advanced Systems.

WhatS the 35% not local?

I would imagine from deduction and (from page 5 - 6 of following doc), substantial parts of the integrated fire control are still imported, since there is unlikely to be follow on order (defence acquisition wants to move to TGS gun for next round which they want <15 tons in weight i.e about 3.5 tons lighter than ATAGS):

So potentially stuff like the sight, muzzle velocity radar, AGAPS (Automatic Gun Alignment and Positioning System ), thermal imager, ballistic computer and anything else not explicitly mentioned along the "larger" components (like barrel, muzzle break, fire + recoil, ammunition handling etc).

Maybe @Gessler knows more.
