Is it worth to spend all that money to propel 6-7kg of HE round for a further 35-40km when you won’t be able to expend them as easily as conventional 155mm rounds? (300-400 dollars vs in excess of 100000 dollars at best)

Precision guided supersonic artillery rockets like Pinaka mk2 or Mk3 series (similar to TRG230/TRLG230) can do the same more economically. I am sure with India’s lower cost base and high production rate the cost of these MLRS can be lowered even further. Pinaka mk3 with 4.7 Mach midcourse speed and hitting targets with mach1.8 is very impressive. When you think that you can fire these from aerial platforms too, their versatility becomes undeniable.

I think the DRDO has said that they want to bring the price per unit down to about 25k usd per which is about 4x cheaper than the price of the guided pinaka(about 100k). Again this is just their projected price and the current price is still insane.
It might benefit from large orders but I don't really see a lot of interest from the IA right now

I think something like this would be harder to intercept compared to relatively large guided rockets.

Correct, the article states that they want to target a price around $22,000 - $28,000 per round, which is very impressive!

Ehhhhh I wouldn't really trust this article tbh, idrw is not a good site and has been known for publishing a lot of bullshit and speculation with some real reports like missile tests etc being mixed in. But this one seems legit

But I assume they would use the pinaka m3 for the higher value targets since it can maneuver and this one for the lower end of the spectrum. Again I haven't seen any real interest from the IA
