How many Air-to-air missiles could carry?
Or is there any chance some of navy's ATAK 2 to carry Bozdağans/Levents?

Sungur has a weight of 19 kg (ibrahim sünnetçi). It can carry 24 of them if a rack of 4 missiles is produced, ı don't know if this is possible. Bozdoğan weighs 140 kg. So 6 of them (1 for each hardpoint) or 10 if to design a rack carrying both of them is possible (2 in 2 hardpoints and 8 in 4 hardpoints). It also depends on the weights of racks carrying multiple missiles..

An agreement is made with TUSAŞ to convert 10 Atak-2 helicopters to firefighting helicopters that can carry 4 tons of water.

I would expect T-925 to be converted as firefighting helicopter not ATAK-2
Too late now, they made the agreement already.

It would be good if they could prepare some of them for this summer as the chopper already made its first flight. Certification of it would be very easy too as it will fly over unpopulated or scarcely populated terrain.

No they can make it to this summer. It barely flies. Need to make more testing then preparing and changing the design and retesting would take more than a year.

Temel Kotil said it flew flawlessly. Smart production methods make development easier. They can probably make it ready but they will probably not take the risk of failures as they haven't crashed any other plane after that one Anka crash AFAIK.

Firefighting version of S70, Firehawk, can carry almost 4 tons of water, so our T70s should be able to do that as well. I wonder why they decided to turn T929 into a firefighting helicopter instead of converting T70s until T925 is ready.

Which makes it even weirder, other than they might be trying to lower the costs and maybe try to get more costumers by making one more variant of T929.

One more variety for TAI to experiment on. With 2x2500hp enginesT929 is a capable lifter and will surely be a price/performance champion. It will even make more sense if it can be made to take and discharge water faster for faster turnaround.

The position of FLIR and the shape of nose will be different.

It is an honor to witness maturation of the masterpieces of Turkish engineering.

Why do people find this helicopter ugly, I think it is "ok" looking, not so sexy but still more beautiful than russian trashes. I do expect change in the nose accordingly with a different flir, more advanced may be bigger. It looks like a temporary placement but who knows, if it is the final version than still "ok"

This is just a prototype (which has been rushed for some reason) congratz to TAI.. Future is bright!

Honestly, I think that the nose looks good. The faceting and the sharp angles give it a that "stealth" looking vibe. And the FLIR turret seems to be positioned for a much better field of view compared to the one on the AH-64 or on the T-129.

IIRC, people here and on twitter didnt like it because the cannon and the EO Turret seem to be positioned very close and it looks like smoke and gases from the gun could interfere with the operation of the optical sensors.

So why can't they move the gun further away, instead of changing the position of the EO Turret and the nose shape?

Me personally, I think the helicopter DOES look ugly. But not because of the nose. It is a little hard to explain its ugliness, but if i had to point out some "design" ugliness, i'd put it like this:

  • It is unusually tall and ofcourse slim also. It looks like one of those extremely tall, thin and black basketball players lol.
  • The engine nacelles are ugly. It has "ugly ears".
  • And that "hat" with that weird curved shape between the helicopter body and the rotors---- it is huge and i think it looks ugly as hell.
  • The cockpit windows dont look nearly as nicely shaped as the ones on the T-129.
  • The underside is not flat like on other helicopters. It has a strange boat like shape. Maybe it has something to do with the helicopter being navalized and needing to have some buoyancy. But it looks ugly.
  • The anhedral pylons give it a soviet gunship look.
Here is a picture to show what I mean

With all that said, we don't know the design tradeoffs and what optimizations were chosen to arrive at those outcomes. But the helicopter is ugly and it is NOT BECAUSE OF THE NOSE. imho.

We should get done with Atak-1 and move on to T629 already. Enough with export restrictions.

So acc. to this tweet OGM has signed a contract for 10 T-925 10-Ton transport helicopters equipped for firefighting (4 Ton water capacity).

This is what Mr. Sünnetci has replied to the afore mentioned tweet.

It seems he has heard rumours that the T-929 project will be suspended for the time beingto shift focus to the T-925 project.

If this is true somethings are starting to click together and I know understand why the T-929 does look like it does. The things @Anmdt mentioned about the "prototype" make even more sense if this rumour ends up being true.

Maybe the T-925 is beeing seen as more important project as the Navy is lacking utility helicopters (CSAR/SAR do so too).

We're here talking only about what the navy needs, while the T70 program is set to complete at about 40 airframes, less than half of what the force needs unless US Congress extends the license.

We need general purpose helis, asap.

IMHO, the right thing to do was to give all Mi-17s from the Ministry of Interior to the General Directorate of Forestry as a whole, and to amend the contract-configuration by transferring the T-70s produced for this Directorate to the Navy.

Good news if true.

We really need 10t utility helicopter that we can customize as we like much more than ATAK 2.

I also like to believe that this means we are finally taking the initiative to focusing on national projects instead of waiting to see if we can buy foreign equipment(in this case not waiting for congress decision for additional batches of T70)
