The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine expressed its opinion on the BMP: for another 20 years the deeply modernized BMP-1 will be relevant

We are talking about deeply modernized versions of the combat vehicle with modern systems
During a meeting with bloggers on November 25, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Colonel-General Ruslan Khomchak, said that today, the upgraded versions of the BMP-1 fully meet the needs of the military and will be relevant for about 20 years. It is a question of deep modernization of this model by forces of the Ukrainian enterprises. At the same time, the emphasis is on modern problems with equipping with such equipment, and financial and technical capabilities of Ukraine.

"For the next 20 years - I will take responsibility - if we deeply modernize the BMP-1 with module replacement, stabilization system, surveillance devices, etc.… It will be a car that will be relevant for at least the next 20 years and much cheaper. Because, we we can buy BMP-1, the last time we bought them for 4 million hryvnias, if I'm not mistaken, "said Ruslan Khomchak.

He also stressed that the purchase of BMP-2 is no longer relevant to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"We understand today that we don't need to buy a BMP-2 anymore. First, no one is selling it to us. We have combat modules, of which there are already two at the exit - we have already conducted tests. The base is the same. We completely repair the base of BMP-1, BMP-2 in Ukraine, rework, do as everything should be, we can upgrade , - the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasized.

It is worth noting (and this was emphasized by Ruslan Khomchak) that the Armed Forces Command does not analyze and forecast the capabilities of domestic defense companies, but only determine what is needed in today's circumstances.

That is, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, first of all, determines the immediate needs of the army in a particular weapon, which is currently most relevant at the front, and issues orders for the necessary samples, based on the financial resources allocated in the budget.
