People talk about CANZUK within Anglo-online culture. However I don't think any of them have thought about or understand military and logistical requirements for the structure or union to be possible.
The combined CANZUK spend 85.2 billion a year on defence. This is about a third of what they would need to spend a year to support and maintain the CANZUK alliance and the trade links.
The alliance would need new nuclear powered aircraft carriers, AAW cruisers, destroyers, escort frigates, more SSN's. Amphibious brigades able to be moved around at once. And air craft numbering 200 to support such operations outside of the carriers. As well as a string of bases around the oceans of the world to support the trade and navy. That doesn't include the difference defence needs of all 4 nations involved.
5 nuclear powered CATOBAR carriers, 12 AAW cruisers, 34 destroyers, 32 SSN's, 90 escort frigates. 4 LHA, 8 LPD's, 6 squadrons of fighter jets, dozens of heavy life and refusing aircraft. 30,000 marines.
The CANZUK countries could support this structure if they spend like 6% of GDP a year on it and it was the main priority of every nation.
However right now it isn't possible and would take 20 years to build that force up.
