I was just about to post this 😅😅

Like I follow bunch of great gun channels like Garand Thumb, Brandon Herrera etc

.....but Ian aka Gun-Jesus (Forgotten weapons) really he is the best and it isn't even close.

Thinking back, I have been following him since his channel was quite new....now its pretty massive.

Glad he found a way to survive on YT, it wasn't looking too hot a while back when they were pressuring him to be more PC...and he found way to split the channel (i.e inrange TV) so FW stays monetised for him and YT seem to have backed off.

750k deaths in wehrmacht in just 3 (summer) months of 1944.

About 150k in normandy area and 600k in Eastern Front (operation bagration).

Near unimaginable today for todays major armies in today's world.

But this scale even relative to ww2 is immense....especially given the continued fighting/resolve to the end after it.

So why no collapse? The role of cohesion:

How ww2 myths still persist like how winter stopped the Germans which is not entirely true.
The reason for German defeat was HUGE underestimation of Soviet force.

According to Barbarossa plan USSR would use 107 divisions in first line, 77 divisions in second line and 25 divisions in third line. I.e. 209 divisions total.

In reality USSR had 186 divisions in first line, 51 divisions in second line, in addition USSR formed 821 new divisions in 1941 and at least 17 divisions from Siberia. I.e. some 1075 divisions.

Despite already in August Germans understood that there was a huge underestimation, they did not send additional reinforcements. Winter here played very minor role.

Indeed the Winter excuse is nothing more than for the Germans to cover their loss and give credit where its due to their arrogance so they have to resort to such myths. A lot of myths were written by neo nazis and former wehrmact officers.

I agree the Germans underestimated the Soviets so bad that it bit them in the end. When you compare the industrial output of both the Soviets were way ahead in mass producing weapons and tanks. Germans were also fighting in various fronts while at the same time wasting their time on prototypes or complex designs. Tiger Tank was powerful and a serious tank whats its use when it breaks down so many times.

It was not problem of the officers who commanded armies and divisions but problem of planners and Hitler.

German's industry was much stronger but they fought on two fronts (they produced over 1000 subs for battle in Atlantic) and they mobilized only in 1943.

Soviets had a strong industry. They were churning out lots of weapons and tanks. Not to mention they had oil.

Germany did not have enough to continue the war.

Germany fighting on many fronts is there fault not to mention they were allied with Italy and neither Japan can give the support they need as they were too far.

Soviets had strong industry but Germany stronger. In 1944 Germans produced more weapons than USSR, despite Germany suffered from daily carpet bombings while USSR got a massive aid.

Another issue for Germans at that point was the extremely long (and increasingly compromised) logistics. i.e getting the produced material to the front. Soviets had theirs relatively secure and assured and lot shorter too.

Just a very wholesome video about a combat veteran that lived to 112 years old.
