Well, I gotta say I didn't expect Netherlands and Spain to be ahead of Turkey.

Turkey now ranks at 19th among Global arms importers and her global arms import share dropped from 2.4% to 1.3% . This is a 49% decrease from the previous period.

I don’t how you guys read this, but I see a less dependent armed forces.

From a mathematical point of view, that decrease could also mean that the total pie got bigger and our total numbers stayed the same-ish. But yes you're right we're importing less. Due to our own products and r&d but also due to embargoes.

The numbers would look different if the F35 orders for example had gone through. And will look different if in the next period the F16s or Eurofighters orders enter the fold.

Drop some sanctions on them and then we'll speak lmao

Seriously, though. Spain's shipbuilding industry is really good and Netherlands does a lot of high-tech subsystems. These countries are successful because they specialize and fill necessary niches in the gargantuan western military industrial complex. From their point of view, it's the most reasonable course of action and I applaud their governments for doing the best for their countries.

Turkiye is trying to do this in spite of western MIC. That's why it's hard. If we got 1/10th of the benefit of the doubt that Israel got, we'd shoot for the stars.

I've never understood SIPRI's numbers. Their numbers are always different from what the countries/defense companies report themselves. The discrepancy seems bigger for smaller exporters than top 5.

We can’t know because this information is not public.

As @Agha Sher said, SIPRI makes no sense.

They claim that between 2018-2022, top 3 importers of Turkish Defence Industry were Qatar, UAE and Oman.

Here are the actual official numbers from TİM:

2018:

Azerbaijan - 63 mln usd

Qatar - 83 mln usd

UAE - 35 mln usd

Oman - 135 mln usd

2019:

Azerbaijan - 88 mln usd

Qatar - 186 mln usd

UAE - 132 mln usd

Oman - 297 mln usd

2020:

Azerbaijan - 261 mln usd

Qatar - 44 mln usd

UAE - 200 mln usd

Oman - 74 mln usd

Source for both 2019 and 2020:

2021:

Azerbaijan - 202 mln usd

Qatar - 180 mln usd

UAE - 161 mln usd

Oman - not on top 10

Source:

2018-2021 total:

Azerbaijan - 614 mln usd

Qatar - 493 mln usd

UAE - 528 mln usd

Oman - 506 mln usd

That was supposed to be the point of my post. Less dependent because of our efforts. It lost its point though in a joyous moment of mine and took a euphoric turn, I must admit :giggle:

Hmm, that's a bit expensive.
The French LG1 105mm howitzer was sold to senegal early 2022 at a price of $2.08m per piece same with the british m119 105mm which has a price of approx. $2.5m . They all share the same specifications and similiar weight and range so $1.5m is a very fair price imo.

Of course when you compare it with French or British product it would be very reasonable. But guess what? we bought this 52C 155mm SPH with only 2.2 each back in 2013.

NORA B-52 K1.

This is why I kind of thought BORAN's unit cost would be around $1 million.

If you want to carry one of them with an single heli, or want to carry 4/5/6 of them in just one cargo plane sortie, or want to travel with them in high mountains or heavy jungles, or want to jump an island on another fastly,

these are your only choices in howitzer category, sorry...
