Turkey agrees to provide drones to Egypt

05.02.2024 • 08:56

Turkey agreed to provide its increasingly popular drones to Egypt after the two countries normalised ties following a decade of rupture, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Sunday.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is set to travel to Egypt on Feb. 14 to meet counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in his first visit since Ankara and Cairo upgraded relations by appointing ambassadors last year.

Lets say there is. Who will buy drones from you when your drones start malfunctioning the moment they operate in Libya?
A kill switch does not mean the drone malfunction and drop from the sky. It could transmit its coordinate to friendly forces which takes them out with larger drones. This will now advertise that you also need the big drone for AA, not just TB2.

Haluk Görgün has tons of handwritten notes in front of him. The ones under his elbow are crossed out, if I'm not mistaken. The folder on his right is full to the brim. In front of his Egyptian counterpart and his assistant is an empty notebook.

It's a photo that suggests that the conversation is more about Egypt's long list of needs.

On the flip side, maybe it means we have repeat customers from all these rivals who now have a dependency on TR

Being Egypt's primary defense supplier and solution partner can also contribute positively to the alignment of the two countries' interests.

Regarding Egypt deal: Egypt Faces a Significant Economic Challenge, Arguably Its Most Severe in Recent Memory and at the heart of this crisis lies economic and political factors. While the IMF and Gulf states have provided significant support in the past, their willingness to extend further free assistance or for returns like assets, land, ports, or even concessions on critical national security issues, is waning. This shift stems from current economic model, mainly influenced by the military's involvement, is unsustainable and prone to recurring crises.

Providing additional aid without addressing these issues, all argue, would be pouring money into a bottomless pit. Consequently, any future support is reportedly conditioned: scaling back the military's economic involvement to pre-Sisi levels or, at least, implementing reforms that demonstrate a clear commitment to a more sustainable model. This condition likely poses a significant challenge for Sisi and his military elite, as reducing the military's economic influence is perceived as politically impossible.

In response to this pressure, He has begun exploring any available means to alleviate the strain, possibly including the drone announcement or they might go far to an EEZ deal depending on what Erdogan has to offer. Some argue that the drone deal is actually for Sudan, especially considering rumors of previous drone acquisitions from Turkey for Sudan and the purpose of the announcement being a message to the UAE. Another analysis, with less potential for contradiction, suggests that the move is with Saudi permission if intended for Sudan after they recently headed to Iran for help.

Does it being on NCMS mean its gonna be license built? I hope not tbh

Assembly is not that hard. Specially when you already have a proven design. But nobody gives the technology of how to fabricate HD IIR and image sensors.

Iirc, Aselflir-300 used to contain foreign sensor until ASELSAN made their own.

Baykar Ukraine facilities are expected to become operational in 2025.

Baykar is gradually globalizing the organization of the company with different project models in Ukraine, Azerbaijan and KSA, and advancing its capacity through both direct investment and on-site production models in cooperation with local governments. Probably a few more countries will be added to this list. This may actually mean that Baykar will soon make its second big leap. If the advancement of unmanned aviation will bring new players to the global aviation industry, BAYKAR is one of the strongest potential candidates.

IP rights belongs to Baykar...

Abu Khalid: "Intellectual property (IP) rights will belong to Turkey. We manufacture the aircraft entirely in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The entire aircraft will be manufactured in Saudi Arabia. Special engineers will come and work with us to develop the software. We're not going to rebuild anyway, but there will be a transfer of knowledge."

According to Omer Cay there is a big possibility that Saudi Arabia will be the first customer of Kuzgun.

The Red Sea and the Gulf could be like the natural habitat of USVs in terms of their characteristics. Mostly calm seas all year round and mostly shallow waters like a strait, with no geographical width. Given the current security risks, especially in the Gulf of Aden, all gulf + red sea countries could be in line for such systems.

Other than this strike package I am sure a USV with an EW package can be very useful in this environment. It may cause serious troubles for other unmanned systems.
