Updates about MKE

  • Volkan, the powder thermobaric production project carried out with TÜBİTAK SAGE, has come to an end. The project, which will enable the development of a thermobaric filled warhead with high destruction efficiency, is planned to start mass production as of September.
  • MKE AŞ, which started to produce C-4 with domestic capabilities, achieved mass production of 15 kilograms in a single shift. It is aimed to increase this amount to 80 kilograms per day.
  • In the Spectral Heat Flare Development Project, the final point has been reached in the development of the spectral heat flare, which protects the air platform against advanced infrared guided missiles. Testing continues with the Air Force.
  • MKE AŞ, which has identified 17 main items that need to be progressed in the field of chemistry, continues its studies for the development and domestic production of critical raw materials.
  • MKE AŞ, which also made significant investments in the steel factory, reached a capacity of 120 tons.
  • Revising the 3,000-ton free forging press, the company is launching the 7,000-ton free forging press. Thus, the only 7 thousand-ton free forging press in the Middle East region will be commissioned. With this project, an important opportunity and advantage will be obtained in special steel production.
  • There were no mechanical problems in the Close Air Defense System tests. Work on the radar to be used with the weapon system continues. It is aimed that the system will be mounted on the ship as soon as possible, the tests will be completed and the delivery will begin.

AKINCI TİHA training of Azerbaijani pilots is completed!

It is expected that the ongoing Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA training of Azerbaijani pilots will be completed soon and they will return to their homeland. Azerbaijan Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov said in a statement, “(Teknofest Azerbaijan) We have met Akıncı deeply, which interests us. I will not keep it a secret, the first team trained in this direction in Turkey will return to Azerbaijan in a few days.” made statements.

T3 Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Baykar Technology Technology Leader Selçuk Bayraktar announced for the first time Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA exports to Azerbaijan at Haber Global in Baku, where TEKNOFEST was held. Bayraktar said, “Although it is our duty as an engineer to develop high technology, the main thing is where and for what purpose it is used. The performance of Bayraktar SİHAs and the performance of the Turkish armies in the Karabakh war is the greatest sign of pride for us as engineers. Haluk Bayraktar and I were awarded the Order of Karabakh. I can say that it is one of the engagements we have received with the greatest pride. Hopefully, we will see AKINCI in the skies of Azerbaijan." he said.

Contracts signed with 3 countries for the export of AKINCI TİHA!

A contract was signed with three countries for the export of Baykar Teknoloji Akıncı Attack Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The names of the exported countries and how many systems they bought were not disclosed. Thanks to this export, besides the MAM family, ammunition such as KGK, HGK and LGK can be sold to countries.

Baykar announced that export contracts have been signed with 3 countries so far for Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA. Within the scope of the contracts, Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA and ground systems are expected to be delivered periodically starting from 2023. Realizing its first national UAV export in 2012, Baykar completed the export of 664 million dollars S/UAV system in 2021, generating more than 80% of its revenues from exports. Negotiations continue with many countries that are interested in the National TİHA Bayraktar AKINCI.

6 AKINCI on Duty

Bayraktar AKINCI TİHAs, which entered the inventory with the ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on August 29, 2021, are currently actively used by the security forces in operational duties. So far, 6 Bayraktar AKINCI TİHAs have entered the security forces inventory.

Bayraktar Akıncı Attack Unmanned Aerial Vehicle System, which has been worked on to become the most advanced technological system in the world in its class, has been produced locally and nationally as MAM-L, MAM-C, Cirit, L-UMTAS, Bozok, MK-81, MK-82, MK- 83 will be equipped with ammunition, missiles and bombs such as the Winged Guidance Kit (KGK)-MK-82, Gökdoğan, Bozdoğan, SOM-A. Bayraktar AKINCI, who recently performed a successful firing test on the target on the sea surface with the Teber-82 Guidance Kit developed by Roketsan, also holds the altitude record in our national aviation history. Continuing its test flights, Bayraktar AKINCI B TİHA broke the altitude record of our aviation history by climbing to an altitude of 40,170 feet in its test flight on March 11, 2022.

Do you know with which Engines they are Exported with ?

Akinci for 25M USD seems rather affordable since TAI Anka-S is sold for ca. 20M USD

Well to be honest saying it is never had an accident is bit of a strecth in marketing point. Only 6 of them delivered so far.

Not a stretch.
Given that each Anka, TB-2. and Karayel had crashes even before they get delivered.
With an unusual airframe like Akinci and at that MTOW, this is a significant and a very valid point.

With an unusual airframe like Akinci and at that MTOW, this is a significant and a very valid point.
Don't get me wrong, it is a good achivement but it is a weak argument for now.

Akıncı has great successes on it is belt but saying it didn't have any accident shadows them imo.

It is not part of a sales pitch, customers are sold on Akıncı regardless.
When the product offers so much more it is only a bit of statistical information for those who wonder. It is also important as they have shared information with the public all along its development and the public is curious if they managed to not get a scratch on it in development.

Elon Musk says "If you are not failing you are not trying hard enough".
Joby Aviation pushed its plane until it finally failed and crashed. But their machines are novel machines and they want to know how far their geometry holds.

Still it is satisfying to know that it didn't fail through all the trials that it's gone.

What's the source. Export price seems too low considering that TB2 is exported at around $7m

Plus 3/4 prototypes. Is is remarkable that none of the prototypes has crashed even though they pushed them to the extremes. Even more when considering that this is their first big platform.

Considering us selling predators between 120m to 160m usd each with logistics and tranining an akinci should never be sold below 2/3 of predators price. Akıncı is the league that only tr and us could reach at the moment.

Akıncı can surely sell for more than $25mn.
Sales prices and product packages should be adjusted to the buying power of the customer.
Some customers may want it with lesser engines and some with powerful engines.
Sensors and ammunition are also a big part of the deal.
Servicing of systems have political implications too where you can not put a price tag.
I believe once the customers see the value Akıncı can bring it can sell for $50mn per piece.

We're oriented by growth, not by the immediate revenue.

Actually thats why i say 2/3 of price. Otherwise, you dont see a price difference of 30 percents on between typhoon and rafale on a similar package.

Great news. But it would be interesting to know the make and version of engines they will have. UAE and especially Pakistan is in USA’s check list before supplying anything. Currently Motor-Sich factory is out of commission. Having seen some prototypes flying with PT6 turboprops with 2 x 750HP engines, it is logical to assume that the top spec Akinci (apart from a rumoured 2 x 1000HP version) is going to have the US engines propelling them. So if these planes are slaves to P&W turboprops, what would be US’s view on delivering these engines to the above mentioned countries - considering what happened with the T-129‘s CT-800 engines?

OK ! Just remembered; PT6 turboprops are manufactured by P&W Canada. So it is under the jurisdiction of Canadian administration. Not US. And Canada recently lifted all export restrictions to Turkey.
Then the same question could be asked for Canada; Would Canada reject sensitive military engines‘ delivery to third party countries? Especially if we supply them to Azerbaijan who would use them against Armenia.

Hope morocco is one of the 7 countries, we have good relations with canada aswell so the turboprops should not be a issue. We also got the wescam from canada before turkey manufactured its own CATS.

The International law prohibits trading of civilian parts for military use.
PT6-A turboprop engine is actually a dual use engine. It is used for civilian aircraft as well as military. (C12 Huron and T6-Texan2 trainer are good examples)
But the question of Canadian government’s consent to 3rd part users still hangs over the use of this engine in Akinci.

I can reply with some confidence re-export of PT-6 to say Pakistan will likely not face much issue/obstacle (at least from Canadian side) as precedent was established recently quite particularly in AgustaWestland export of AW 139 to Pakistan AirForce for SAR role which uses the PT-6 turboshaft.

Canada govt also currently does not hold final export control over PWC as its long been owned by pratt whitney USA now part of UTC (US parent company) and all such export control lawsuits (regarding say China) have been prosecuted 100% by US State department (whereas it passed Canadian export controls).

In fact I cannot think of one instance Canadian govt itself stopped PT-6 engine (or fined PWC) export to say (ITAR pressure issue) China or seen use in warzone (latter generally is the basis for Canadian export controls).

But given Akinci is directly weapons payload capable (unlike SAR helicopter) and US state dept has an ongoing cold relationship with Pakistan in military sphere.....there could be ITAR issue they raise through UTC side.
