"PROCUREMENT OF EUROFIGHTERS FROM QATAR

Efforts are ongoing to procure Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Qatar to meet the operational needs of our Air Force Command.

In this context, during inter-delegation meetings held in August and September, discussions focused on the scope of the aircraft and ammunition to be procured, the training of pilots and maintenance personnel, and technical and logistical support for the sustainment and operation of the aircraft.

Qatar is expected to prepare and send a draft training program and sales contract to our country."

Very misleading title.
Anybody just looking at the title thinks Turkiye has ordered further typhoons in addition to the 20 ordered last year in October from UK.
Same old news!
Nothing new. Main information is “we are waiting for Qatari contract“. It is still not certain, according to this news piece , how many we are to procure from Qatar.

There are unconfirmed news and rumours about new potential jet fighter orders for TurAF. But how much of that is true no one knows apart from top brass.
The option clause of a further Typhoon order being activated is among those rumours. Also regarding the 40 units of F16 V70 order is still valid according to same rumours. Apparently the production site of the Turkish order has been a point of contention. But the order is still in the works. the 36 Qatari and Omani Typhoon jets are also still on the table.

None of these rumours have concrete substance. They are just rumours circulating In the local defence media circles.

But ….
re: 40 x f16 V70
We paid the deposit of approximately 1.4 billion dollars for these and gave the order. The ball is in LM’s corner. We wanted to manufacture them in house. We wanted access to source codes. But we understand that they prefer the production stays in US and are reluctant to release source codes. Plus they increased prices due to increasing production costs. So where the order currently is at, is a mystery!

Re : Typhoon order

The prerequisite of Typhoon order was to receive a quantity of fighters quickly. Hence the 24 Qatari + 12 Omani jets. But war on Iran has soured that deal a bit. Recently however our officials have said that it is still valid and we are expecting their sale contract to go forward.
There is also a 20 (or 24 according to above infographic) units of option clause in the contract with UK. But we don’t know if that is activated. If all are realised we are looking at a total of 80 Typhoons.

TurAF has given an order for 20 Kaan jets to Tusas with F110 engines. That is subject to if serial production starts soon. But we have yet to see P1 to fly!!

No chance of Austria buying more Typhoon. They proved so much more expensive to operate than expected that they became 'hangar queens' due to lack of funds to fly them.
I think in a decade or so TurAF will be the ones with highest readiness rate of all users not to mention the first on to properly integrate air to ground munition but we need more numbers to make sense
